So today after hitting a large bump on the farm track, I noticed grinding/scraping noise when driving at low speed, which becomes more rapid up until 40km/h, where it either stops, or I can't hear it over the road noise. It sounds like it grinds at a certain point of the wheel's rotation. It doesn't affect handling or braking, it's just a noise. I've jacked up the car and spun the wheel and it's almost silent (slight grind that sounds like dirt caught in something), and there's no trim loose in the wheel arch. The only thing I can think of is a wheel bearing. What do you lot think? From what I read is that you have to have the whole hub replaced if it is a bearing. If I have to get the whole hub replaced, what would be the average cost be? Very rough guess.

Thanks guys.

Check the tyre. I had a similar noise, turned out the second hand tyre was damaged and the steel belts in it were creaking once a rotation.

That would make a lot of sense, now I think about it. The tyres only have 10% at the very most before they're illegal, and hitting a big pot hole hole (Big enough to whack the bumper) probably wouldn't be the best for it. I assume the only real way to test it is to swap the tyre over and see if the noise stops? Or can I press on the tyre or bump it with a hammer to see if it creaks?
