I've decided to go for the pod filter, and I know this topic has been done before and I should just search for it, but if any of you have any pics of your setups I'd be really apreciate seeing them, as most people i've talked to say the engine bays pretty cramped as it is and I cant see where to put the actual pod,

There's actually heaps of room in the 3rd Gen engine bay, once you remove your intake box and put a pod in, there's so much room. You can Twin turbo it. HAHA..

ok, so where abouts did you actaully mount the pod, or is it just inside the engine bay, I was kinda hoping I'd be able to get some direct air flow into it

Here are a few pics of my setup using the oval pod filter

It picks up a little to much engine heat though.
However it does a great job.

man don't mean to be rude but you actually just robbed yourself of more power there. your oval pod is just sucking in hot air. i think most others on his forum will agree. you'll need to do a proper CAI and heat shield for it to work better.

Yeah i know this.
I was goin to get the CAI kit but decided on not doin this as i was planning a turbo upgrade
and I was goin to relocate it then with custom piping.

If I had got a CAI kit then it would have been a waste of money.
If you put a heat sheild around it and possibly add small air scoops above it then that would also help. Leaving the original front air scoop would also allow cold air to reach the POD.

However I'm waiting to finish the turbo stuff until i fully decide on where it is goin.

I know a lot of people will agree with you on this, but I don't think you'll get much flow from the intake snorkle without having the engine actually sucking air from it, the reason why I say this is because when I took off my grill to mesh last time, I had a close inspection on the clearance you have between the bonnet and the radiator rail which is the gap your intake snorkle gets, now it is not in direct air flow for one, and since there isn't really a scoop there to catch the air to feed it to your POD, you won't really be sucking much cold air from the intake snorkle. But what the air box can offer is shielding from direct convection of heat to your filter element, which is probably a good thing to have.

just my opinion.

has anyone managed to place the pod toward the front of the car or anywhere else where it will actually get some cold air going into it? without chopping there car up to much anyway?

yeah i got the old smooth bore K&N job from RPW and it puts your pod in behind the front drivin lights, although i had to cut some off the end of the piping and off rubber piping just behing the MAF

Any chance you could take some pictures for us? or anyone with the same kit?

well heres my version with a resistor on (iat) so it will tell the sensor that the air is 0degrees.

Ok thanks for all your input, but practically all the setups i've seen here have the pod filter mounted inside the engine bay with no CAI at all, is it really effective at all? or is there anyone thats managed to mount the pod somewhere where it gets direct air flow?

Well, most of them are just replaced filters without CAI. The handy thing with a pod is that you can whack it on the end of some pipe and relocate it.

did you notice much when you put the resistor on?

Yeah, like poorer economy? This sounds soo dodgy though.

Dark_Magician can afford a RalliArt, surely he can afford the extra buck each week.

But i'm more interested in what it actually gained?

Qs for Dark_Magician:
1) Have you noticed that your car runs hotter?
2) In your trip computer, what is the avg Fuel consumption?
3) Have you checked your Spark Plugs lately? What colour are they? any Blistering?
4) Do you get any fume smells in your exhuast due to the richer mix.
5) Have you been bothered with dyno? What is the current kW of the car?

I have the pod mounted behind the front driving light on the passenger side. I'll take a photo tonight, unfortunately due to intercooler piping I had to have it further back than I wanted, which meant relocating the radiator over flow bottle.

No it does'nt go hot at all. fuel consumption is 13.2 l/100 i have'nt check the plugs yet but i will no fume smell except if i rev it high just to clean the injectors. Dyno hav'nt done one yet but i will just waiting for more stuff 4 the car b4 goin for it. and i just notice the diff on accelerating the pick up is so faster than b4

No, it shouldn't get hotter. Fuel is used to keep engines cooler. I'd be more worried about the cat. If it's running to rich, you'll kill it.

many ppl seem to think that leaving the front 1/2 of airbox and snorkel on will let the pod on maf suck in cool air, or cool air being directed onto it. this is not true because the pod will suck air from around it and unless you make new boxing around the pod most aitr will jsut come from engine bay. cool air is not directed onto it as there is no ram effect from stock snorkel. unless you make a scoop in front of the snorkel (behind the grill) to direct cool air into the snorkel, none will reach the pod.
i first of all did that to get some cool air to it but still got sick of the noise of the pod, so i moved it down to inside the bumper below the LH headlight and used thermo nylon flexible piping from the pod to the maf. this was a lot of work in the end and i should have just bought the K&N CAI kit. i still need to make better splash protection in front of the wheel to protect it.

Hey tS i have my pod sitting in almost the same spot but yeah the bottle sits right on top of the filter. Can you send in a pic of whereabouts you relocated your bottle as i think i will move mine to give the filter just a little more clearance from MR BITUMEN!!
Also did you know you can get ahhhhh what are they called either filter charger or something, it's like a sock from K&N that goes over your filter to stop most of the water but still let in the air. Has helped mine with the old wet weather driving!!
But would appreciate a pic or two of you relocated bottle.
Cheers A:flame:

I didn't reuse the existing over flow bottle. At the moment I have a temporary one up the back behind the strut brace (over the top of the brake lines and charcoal canister).

I am relocating my battery to the boot and making a square tank, that has two halves. One for the window washer, and the other for the over flow.
