I recently purchased the upper glovebox on the passenger side(goes where the passenger side airbag should go). Also purchased a dash that has the hole for it(my dash did not have a passenger airbag)

upon fitting the glovebox in place of where the airbag should be I found that the close mechanism does not work on the glove box. Inspecting the dash there is a spot where it should be mounted but there is nothing there.

just wondering is this something i need to pull from a passenger airbag?

Does it have a latch for the mechanism to lock onto?
Sort of like the trunk lid does, or the lower glove box etxc

I think that's what I need. The latch. I can see the mounting for it on the dash. I was wondering why it would be missing.

You need the latch from the dash that the upper glovebox come from.
From memory it was the TE or TF Altera that had them, pretty rare in any case. Chance of getting just the latch would be slim, you may be better served going straight to Mits to buy one.

It's not the same latch as the one on the lower glove box is it? Would be pretty neato if it was.

Yes that's it - johnvirus01, the latch in the middle of your pic is what I need.

I might try and create one as I think sourcing one will be too hard if I have to rely on models that came factory equipped with them.

Maybe you can source one from the spare parts department?
