Hi,
Trying to help a friends out with a problem they are having with their V6 Magna (Not sure if 3 or 3.5lt)
Occasionally when driving , when slowed right down for give way etc and you put foot to throttle it will hesitate before accelerating at all for a good 2-3 seconds.
During this time the revs don't dip or increase, however i did notice after this occurred idle was pretty low.
It happens more often once the car has warmed up but has happened while cold. It is also more common on hills etc (Under more load)
I haven't had any experience with magnas, but i am thinking Possible IAC or Air sensor?
Is it possible to run a diagnostic without any special gear (I know many cars will blink lights for error codes)
I also don't want to go chucking parts at it since its not my car or my money.

Cheers,

Ziek

It could be a lot of things, spark plugs, leads, faulty coil, dirty/worn out contacts in the distributor cap and dirty/warn rotor button, oil in the spark plug tubes, dirty injectors, dirty throttle body, as you have mentioned dirty IAC, even down to a faulty O2 sensor. problem is, none of these will throw a code unless the O2 sensor completely fails.

You should start by checking things rather than replacing.
For example remove the leads and check for oil in the tubes
Remove spark plugs and check for condition
Inspect leads (you can test them with a multimeter)
Inspect throttle body
Inspect contacts in the distributor
