2002 ralliart. recently the ABS light came on and traction light followed. have tested and the ABS does not work with the light on. interesting thing is i was driving through the rain and abs came back for about 10 minutes during this time i tested that it worked and it did. im guessing a faulty wheel sensor or wiring? where do i start?

Start at the beginning. This could be either:

Read the manual, work out how to read error codes, read them, act on them.

OR

Remove each wheel, locate the ABS sensor, and check for damage, clean. Move on to the next wheel.

Sometimes, if the c.v. shaft boot has split, grease comes out and covers the ABS sensor. The rain may have cleaned it off some.... might be worth checking.

would i have to pull them out to clean them?

Yes, but it's pretty easy. It's one 10mm or 12mm bolt holding them in. Very easy to do.
You'll see where it's mounted into the hub, right above the ribbed ring that sits on your drive shaft. Just use a bit of cleaner and a rag on the sensor and the induction ring itself. Of course, if the boot is split, best get it replaced, if you're not equipped to do that yourself.

My twin piston caliper ABS equipped TS V6 had that light go on at times. Cleaned the wheel sensors, one of them had bits of metal adhering to it. They are magnetic apparently. Fixed the problem.

Reading the error codes would probably tell you which is affected.

I wouldn't worry too much about that until AFTER you've done a visual check and clean of the components.

my brothers TH sports did the same thing, it was the module on the abs unit, we just changed the hole thing 150 bucks from the wreckers.

Not sure who would rip apart a car before getting the codes as this could be anything from the TPS, Solenoids, Sensors, ABS ECU in the modulator etc etc. A lot of risk also in damaging the sensors taking them out add to this then there is the risk that one of the sensors is not working so you would then be putting in an untested sensor back which may be no good

Just get the codes read and go from there
