The other day i took my car down to Mitsubie auto and got a re built engine put it in. The engine comes with a reconditioned head, new rings, rebored new timing chain etc etc.
He listed heaps of stuff and i cant remember. I was hoping he would give me an actuall paper saying what is new inside it but he didnt. I guess i could ask them next time i go down their.
I cant believe how much quiter it is compared to the old engine :)
All up it cost me $1675 that includes fitting, oil, oil filter, set of manifold gaskets, coolant, a water pump and new cooling hoses.
Their is still some small things i need to fix on it. The CV joint is split and the exhaust manifold has a crack in it wich you can hear.
I remember when the damn thing cracked. I lost alot of power :(
BTW the rebuilt engine is meant to be for a 91+ magna but because mine was EFI, they could put it in my TN :)
Was $1675 to much for what i got done ?
I really hated handing over 16 green 100 dollar notes. Thats the most i have ever handled.
when i handed him the money i almost forgot to take my grip off it lol

LMAO! As you do!!!
Im glad its running well for you mate, pay a visit to the wreckers and you might pick up an exhaust manifold cheap, or even better, GET EXTRACTORS :D:D:D:D

Nice work with the new engine mate, i know mine needs a bit done to it. Valve seals, timing chain, probably other stuff that i dont know off.
Dont stress about the CV joints, its not a major problem just yet. Its not even that expensive to get fixed.
Have fun

91+ engine fitting in ur TN isnt that great. they are all astron II's. they have the exact same block, and head for that matter. (this is the TR im talking about). the efi engine had a compression ratio of 9.0:1 instead of the 8.8:1 like the 1st gens had. ONLY the efi TR's had this difference, not the carbs. this and minor tuning is y the TR's had 98kw at the engine instead of the 1st gens 93kw at the engine. if its rebuilt its rebuilt, no matter if its an 86 TM block or a TR 92 block... if its rebuilt it'll act the same. (ie, very near the same as it came new).
well, my mate paid $1800 for a rebuilt engine, this price included a brand new clutch kit and a rebuilt carby.
if ur exhaust manifold is cracked, maybe its time for a set of extractors :D just weigh up the price... you'd b looking at around $350 for a really decent set of extractors for the 1st gen. c how much they want at the wreckers and go from there.

1) All up it cost me $1675 that includes fitting, oil, oil filter, set of manifold gaskets, coolant, a water pump and new cooling hoses.

1) Thats not a bad price dude, its the labour that gets ya hey.
2) Im assuming you mean CV Joint Boot? If your CV joint was split you wouldnt get very far. (LOL like move at all unless you pushed it)
Might be worth doing so no dirt gets in there making the CV wear out prematurely. The boot is cheap the CV joints are like 100 - 150 each plus labour if you get someone to do it.
3) Judging by magna se tms mate, sounds like u got around the same price. While the engine was out it woulda been a quick job to do the clutch, but since they didnt, it obviously didnt need doing.
Getting an engine rebuilt is an excellent idea when someone good does it. In a the 1st gen's case a good engine builder can probably build it better than it came out from factory.:bowrofl:.
Good to hear your cars running good dude. Look after it, the next 5000-10000 kays is what determines the rest of the engines life. If it was me i'd probably do an oil change at 1000 kays, then again at 5000. Drive it soft for a bedding in times, then a quick squirt for a little bit. I can remember when cars and engines in general came with running in instructions. It was actually fun, but frustrating at the same time. You wanna give the engine more, but u gotta run it in.
Trust me though, waiting is worth it.
To the dude that said an EFI engine isnt that great, any engine in perfect working order is worth it.

Yeah i havent been pushing it.
When i had the old engine i was just killing it cause it was total crap anyways. Im so glad when im at the trafic lights i can sit their comfy and not be embarest by the noisey engine.
Oh yeah it is the boot thats split lol.
I have to get used to the engine noise though because this one is so quite lol.
Im so glad i found these guys first because i whent to this wreckers and wanted a second hand engine and the guy wanted $850 for the engine, $400 for labour and that did not include a different head and other parts needed.
One thing im not happy about is the fact that the note sounds pretty much the same as the old engine but just as TM-SE-RED said, its the same engine but never mind thats what a new exuast system is for :D
I havent told my brother inlaw about getting the engine yet. He is not going to be very happy.
He is going to say that it wasnt worth it and i should have got another car. Before i got this done i was thinking and thinking about getting it done.
I writ up a Pro's/Con's thing about getting another car for $1600 or getting the engine for the same price and getting the new engine had more pro's so im happy :)
