It's blatantly illegal and will make very little (if any) difference to power.
If you are concerned about your cat being a restriction, install a 200 cpsi high flow cat and be done with it.

Well i was looking at the price of standard cats, expensive so i dont even want to know how much a high flow is and i know it is illegal but i would still like to know if it affects anything negatively.

Theres an online ebay store called scotts rods that have a 200cpsi cat for $125, my local exhaust place where I got my work done only charged me $50 for installation, so $175 maybe $200 at most depending on where you get it fitted.
Theres also 100cpi and 300cpi but the best option on a magna from researching amc and also other forums is always a 200cpi because a 100cpi is not restrictive enough and is too loud coupled with a muffler and the rest 300cpi is too restrictive

yer cool, i was looking at standard ones online and they where about 700 bucks so i thought the high flows would be even more. I want to keep it quiet so no changing the muffler. Is the muffler very restrictive, will it give me more power if i change that too?

You can get half decent high flow cats off eBay for around the $150 mark brand new.
The standard cat is not a restriction.
If you have a base model, the rear muffler is your major restriction, and you will notice gains by installing a free-flow rear muffler.
You should have a search of the forums as exhaust modifications is a topic that has been covered in depth many times.

+1 I put a straight through lukey rear muffler on my te when I first got it, it has a great sound and I think that was the only difference between the base and sports model.
I'm also fitting extractors on soon but not even thinking about swapping cats.

ok i might try the rear muffler first, its just that i was trying to get more flow without more noise. my days of the louder the better is over, it just gives me a headache.
