Hi

I have a TL VR AWD where part of the surface of the steering wheel at the tip has worn away to the underlying leather and a slight part of the stitching at the 2 o'clock position is just at the point of loosening up.

Has anyone else had this problem and how have you got around it?

There is an eBay store in the UK which supplies leather covers - but looks like not for the Magna ( http://stores.ebay.co.uk/mr-steering/MITSUBISHI-/_i.html?_fsub=1819304017&_sid=215948397&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322c )

and there's also this guy in South Australia ( http://planetsoarer.com/leather/index.htm ) - who does complete recovers - but it is remote, and would mean me taking off the steering wheel (how would this effect the airbag?)

Thanks

Leather wheels do get wear problems as they age.

To send off, you would have to disconnect the battery, remove the airbag, then the wheel. You then send it off and leave the car as it is, ie unusable, until the wheel comes back. Unless you have a spare wheel, of course.

How difficult is is to put back together again - particularly the airbag?

You would have to look at the manual. There's a clock spring involved, and I've never had an airbag equipped steering wheel off a third gen myself.
