Taking my car into a local mechanic on Friday to get the 100.000klms service done. This is what I've asked for:

- Timing chain (~$380)
- Replace all other belts ($?)
- Radiator flush ($?)
- Adjust handbrake ($?)
- Remove broken bolt and fit 3x helicoils to fix stripped threads in the intake manifold ($80-100)
- Check/replace brake pads ($?)

Any ideas on whether the quoted prices are OK and what I'm up for on the other items?

Also, are there any other things I need to consider for the 100.000klms service? I already recently changed the oil and filter, transmission fluid, replaced the plugs with Iridiums all round...

haha, nah, kidding :D

what about spark plugs (in particular the ?platinum? rear bank which are supposed to get done every 100K km), they will need doing too! (unless they got done at 90K)

also check engine mounts.... mine were stuffed around this time of its life!! (maybe thats cause its a manual, but better to check anyway!)

Read my first post; I've already replaced all the plugs with Irridiums.

Thanks for the info on the engine mounts. I'll definitely ask them to check it.

u sure it's a 6 cause only the 4cyl mags had chains or you've got the rarest 3.5 in a magna :bowrofl:.
Couldn't resist

Seriously I got my chains :bowrofl:, allright serious now I had this done by mitsu and timing belt $124, other belts $44, coolant $33 parts only, labour? cause it was part of 90 000 service which also included all fluids changed (ex auto) $700 total.

Well car is back from the mechanic and they didn't do the timing chain because they say it doesn't need doing until 150.000klms!

Anyway here is a breakdown of the charges (all prices excl GST):

Drive Belt $23.99
Fanbelt $26.99
Radiator Inhibitor $45.00 <-- bloody expensive radiator fluid!
Bendix Brake Pads $69.90 <-- for front brakes
Disc Machine $50.00
4h Labour $220.00
Helicoils $22.00
Workshop Supplies $5.00
Environmental Levy $4.00

Total Incl GST: $513.57

Ok, 3.5 litre V6 has TIMING BELT not TIMING CHAIN.

This belt MUST be changed at 100,000km. If you don't its a time bomb!! And its ugly when they let go.

And four hours to change two 'external' belts, a coolant flush and fill, probably oil and filter, brakes seems a little excessive :) ... although you did ask for some bolt/thread repair work so it could be fair.

Why where the Helicoils used, was there a problem with plugs etc.,
I should read posts more carefully, answered my own question

OK well that confirms that R.A.C.E. have NFI what they're talking about. Can someone recommend a good mechanic in the Brisbane area to do the timing chain?

Hey man. My mechanic seems to be pretty good, reasonable pricing, wont rip you off and only does what is required to do. Try Catch Me performance at Underwood (Springwood), Phone No. 3386 0100. Speak to Shane. He knows his stuff (does a lot of performance work on turbos ect.)
