Hey there all.

I know this topic has been thrashed to death but I was after some info on your ride heights.

The reason for it is because my AWD rides like a pig and I'm sure I know why but just want others advice. It rides like it has no suspension in it or like it is on Super lows even though its on Lows.

My thoughts are that the springs must have sagged. Reason for this is because I can sit on one of the front guards and bounce down on the car and it literally barely goes down at all if at all.

The way King's say to measure your height is from the dead centre of the rim (hub) to the guard.

Mine has Kings Lows in the front and the SP's in the rear (for gas tank) and my measurements are:

Front 360mm
Rear 350mm.

I have recently had new shocks put in as I thought the old ones were shot and it was not absorbing the bumps at all causing it to bottom out. This made no improvement. Therefor I feel the springs have sagged to the level where they are sitting on bump stops.

What are your height measurements guys on what springs:

Thanks.

Oh yeah. I forgot to say that the springs have been in for 7 years.

Are you sure your shocks are ok?

Yeah they are brand new. It's more the fact that the car feels like its sitting on the bump stops as I don't seem to be able to push it down at all when leaning on the front.

I had King Lows on my FWD Magna for about six years until I sold it. In hindsight they did seem to deteriorate over time. I thought they were too soft a spring rate, especially for their height, and mine did bottom out more than I would have liked. A heavier AWD would only exacerbate this.

I only have anecdotal evidence but I reckon you're right in what you're saying.

I've heard rumors that King Springs do sag. Not sure how true it is though

I'm getting about the same measurement as yours on the front, with King lows.

Can you press your front down at all? Mine won't budge. I wonder how people could put SL's in if I'm already on a bump stop with lows. I know they have probably sagged but that much?

Just had a go, gingerly (bad back) & yeah does compress a little.

Yeah SL's are a joke....Lows are are too soft as well.

My King Springs have not 'sagged" I like to use the term "Settled" in. I am pleased it drives very firm, comes in handy during the hill runs.

Yeah mine rides like this - it has standard springs and soft but still roadworthy shocks. Over dips in the road it thumps particularly from the OSF strut area. The left does it too but to a lesser extent. Driving into driveways at any speed induces the thump too. I think I'm going to buy 4 springs, shocks and front bump stop rubbers in the next few days. It is starting to shitteth me. The wallowing on mid corner road irregularities at speed is not particularly inspiring.

@ familywagon, I have the same setup on my AWD.
Kings SP rears & Lows front. I do have compliance in the front as in you can budge the front but only by about 10mm or so. My springs & shocks are only 2 years old though but having said that, they have hit the front bump-stops about 3 or 4 times now. I find the king springs fronts to be too soft for my liking and in hindsight, I would've been better off spending a little more and going the koni's (ala ralliart) with Dobinson springs or even KIDO coilovers, as one of our cars has coilovers and I'm used to them. I'll do that when the time comes, that's assuming that I havent gotten bored with the 'rada by then.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to head down the path of SP's in the front and standards in the rear(will drop a little due to gas tank).
I'm just over the bang crash ride. Yeah the car looks great but rides like a pig. And I don't want to put lows in it so it can happen again.

Apparently the Dobinson springs for Magnas are a firmer spring rate than the Kings equivalent. May be worth looking into?

I too recommend the Dobinsons, I had them in my AWD before changing to coilovers. They are firmer and I didn't hit the stops once.

Any other heights guys for all 3? (SP, Lows and SL's)

I think this thread (www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77988) contains some of the info you're looking for.
