View Full Version : Trans. Flash!
Well after a few years of looking & waiting for this , finally its landed in my lap........
All shifts have been quickened up & line pressure increased accordingly for individual shifts. Line pressure increases @ 70% throttle.
The car drives as normal around town but shifts are quicker, stick your boot into it & its ferkin superb.....firm & fast shifts.....no more 3-4th rubber band like twang as well.
Shift points can also be altered.
SKR are happy to do the same for others if interested......it'll cost you $250. Can be tailored to suit your requirements.
Well done. Sounds like a worthwhile mod. Other than the performance changes, do you expect any changes to fuel economy?

Great news!
Meh on changes in fuel economy, but do let us know how long the transmission lasts with the extra stresses on it now.

Doubt there'll be much difference to economy Bill...will let you know though.

Haha, wont be driving everywhere @ WOT, should be fine! Just nice to have options when & if needed.
Its only done 3,200 k's in 6 months & 2k of that was an interstate trip, so she'll probably last a while.

What does it means shifts are quicker? Less slip time between gears?
Is this a 4 or 5 speed?

Yes correct, can be adjusted by milliseconds. Car is AWD -5 speed.
4spd. can be done also.......will play around with my 4spd. TW wagon sometime down the track. Maybe a little milder firmness & up the drop back spd. into 1st.
Are their any noticeable differences in "tippy" mode?

Yep it all translates to tippy as well.

Definitely interested, my biggest gripe with my car, mainly in tippy mode, is how slow it is to respond to shifts.

Is line pressure controlled by the transmission ECU as well?
And if the shifts are quicker does that result in more vibration shocks?

Yes..... But can be upped in general manually across the whole, by fiddling with trans. Pretty crude though!
I don't think quicker shifts affect that side of things (i'm no expert though). Depending on how high you go with line pressure can however.

What I really think, eh?
My "logic" goes something like this . . .
Mitsu have tested the box and picked the shift points and shift speeds for:
(a) Good match performance wise to the engine.
(b) Fluid (gentle) shifts.
(c) Least stress on gearbox components like torque converter, planetary gear set and clutches, so it lasts longer.
I bet the last point was very high up on their agenda.
GM boyz in the US like to get their autoboxes to shift more crisply (valve body work rather than electronic), but they usually combine it with a rebuild of the box with heavier components.
Hope it lasts, an interesting experiment though.
PS. I tend to see the downsides to most of the mods you guys do. lol
Needless to say, my two Magnas are stock as a rock. lol
Boring but safe and reliable. The 2 main reasons I drive Magnas.

Any chance of having dual maps, so there would be a power and economy button?
I would like slower shifts, lower in the revrange, and I would like 1st not to kick in while moving. But would also like a button for power to make it back to stock

No idea. He is playing around with dual maps for tunes. He's not interested in any mechanical work though. Unless it a race type project.

Sounds great!! Do you know if this is something he can do by mail-order or in-house only?

Could you get a 4sp to shift back to first without having to drop speed bellow 45km/h
