Hmmm.... does it give any indication of running rich? The disparity between the injector scaling is sufficient that in some cars the ECU might hit one of the fuel trim limits and not be able to adjust leaner. Disconnecting the oxygen sensor disables the closed loop fuel management which might smooth out the running, but it would still be pretty rich....
Do you have an OpenPort logging setup (which would show the fuel trims)? If not, which side of town are you? Given that its a TE as per your profile, reflashing the ECU to fix the injector scaling is problematic :(
If you still have the 6G72 injectors, if they will fit the 6G74 fuel rail etc (which I have no idea about), then as a diagnostic measure swapping them back in might indicate whether fueling is the issue (though you would be likely to run lean at the top end).

Nothing to do with 3.0 ecu at all, I do this conversion on a regular basis
Get a new oxy sensor, is one of the most overlooked parts on a car

Mal is more than likely right about the oxygen sensor. If after changing that you still have a problem, the logging might show something (I have a logging setup; I'm in the Belconnen area and so meeting up somewhere ought not be too hard to organise). I would keep a sharp ear out for knock with a new O2 sensor, given the timing differences between the tunes and depending on what fuel you usually use, but hopefully you don't have that problem.

Best thing about changing an O2 sensor - Even if it doesnt fix your problem, you can at least convince yourself you may get some sort of economy gains out of having a new one :D
