Hi guys
When my engine is cold and I start it, the compressor makes horrible rattling noises, after a few mins running the noise goes, Iam thinking bearings in the compressor has anyone had these done, and an idea of cost, do I have to have it regassed as the cooling is perfect.
thanks in advance

Possibly the clutches? Does it makes noise any other times or only when you switch it on? How about if you turn on the air con when engine is at temp?

There is a slight little noise when engine is at temp I can only hear it if i open bonnet and listen hard ..when engine starts I used a stethoscope and its definatly out of the air compressor

What happens if you drop the drive belt; does the noise go?

There's a thread here somewhere about a DIY front bearing replacement, with the compressor in the car and without needing to regas it.
If the noise is there with the compressor off, it will be the front bearing. If the a/c is on at the time of the noise, it is internal.
As above, take off drive belt, then spin idler and compressor by hand and feel for roughness. Have a look at the belt condition too.
If you are absolutely sure it is not the belt or idler, and you don't want to DIY, take it to an aircon specialist - this is the quiet time of the year for them, don't wait until the first hot spell.
They will replace the compressor and regas, not a cheap job.

Sounds like the front bearing then.

KH runs the replaceable bearing set up, your symptom is classic clutch bearing has failed given only happens when the aircon compressor is not running
