Hi,

I recently got hit from behind. AAMI has repaired it via Capital Smart repair at Silverwater. They did not get me a new plastic mould, rather, they just repainted my old mould which has deformed from the impact. They did however replace the reinforcement bar which was bent with a recycled one. As you can see, the gap between the mould and boot door doesn't aligned uniformly, and the mould near the centre is kinda curved in.

Does anyone have any experience how best to pursue this, as Capital Smart doesn't want to do anything further.

Thanks!

Update: They sent me back to Smart next week...

Talk to AAMI.
Normally they will give the smash repairer 2 or 3 times to fix the issue and if they do not then it is fixed on their expense I believe.

its still caved in, take it back. make sure the boot closes easily and check they havn't adjusted the catcher to compnesate for a bent chassis. check for even gaps around the back doors as well.

Take it back to SMART.. Tell them its not straight and you want it replaced.

If you have no luck, call AAMI and advise them of the issue.

I already took it back to SMART. They try to use force to level the gap! Also tried to twist the boot door too!

So in the end, they told me it is an old car (year 2000 make) and it's probably expected bumper plastic mould doesn't align evenly to the door being in the sun for a long period of time over the years.

I had booked an assessment with AAMI at Haberfield mid this week. See how I go...

I've added pic to my first post. Maybe that's is a bit clearer that the cave in is off centre.

My advice is that you do not deal with the smash repairer but AAMI.
If anything goes wrong while you are negotiating with the smash repairer AAMI will say it was without their consent and you are stuck

Too bad ur with AAMI. i think they put a lot of pressure on the repairers to do as cheap a job as possible with methods such as sourcing 2nd hand parts. I guess their argument will be that the cover was already bowed prior to the accident. Ridiculous. That whole industry needs repair.

You can just get them to keep redoing it. Nothing wrong with second hand parts. Recyclingvis pretty important

Look around at other third gens and you will see a lot of them have the rear bumper skin bend inwards, little to do with accident damage, more like the skin's age and the fact it has no support along the length of it.
When I repainted my TJ I took the skin off the car, it was that shape, no accident damage evident behind it.
If you really want it to bow outwards more at the middle of the centre, you could pack some soft foam between the reinforcing bar and the centre of the bar to pad it out a few cm. A lot of cars have styrofoam shapes behind the rear bar to maintain the correct shape.

SMART only do work for the Suncorp Group of Companies.. All repair issues are dealt with directly by SMART.

Once this rectification attempt fails, that's when a reinspection is organised and a second assessor/estimator will assess the damage and advise of rectification process.

The issue is more to do with the gap between the bumper mould and the boot lid not even. The ends have a wider gap than the centre. It should be an even gap. I look through magna pics on drive/carsales last night just to make sure.

AAMI is generally very good about things like this.
I have had a rear bar replaced due to an accident previously.
Be firm and stand your ground, and they will listen.
The last time I had to deal with them on my dad's magna, they gave in and let me pick my own repairer.
Plus they give a lifetime warranty on the repair.
When you take it for inspection, state your case clearly,
and they will most likely ask you what you want to happen.
Then you hit 'em up for new bar!
