I currently have the standard old speakers in my Magna (A new system is my second priority when I actually get a job, first being a new set of tyres), and I notice that if I have a song playing with even moderate bass, the back window and/or trim tends to vibrate along with the music. I don't have to have it very loud at all, I can still hear the wind rush by at 100, but it still makes the window vibrate, even though I have the bass down fairly low. My main question is, and apologies in advance if this sounds very n00byc but if I were to get a new sound system, would the new speakers make the window vibrate less? Would the rubber bits around the outside kill some of the vibrations?

Thanks, and sorry for sounding idiotic :p

Sounds as if you have trouble with trim, or the door its self. You could do a door deading job with tape and cardboard to see if things improve. Best to start by pulling things apart and having a look. Interested to hear the fix....

If you filter out the bass or the new speakers you get lack alot of low end then, maybe. But why would you? Dont sacrifice the bass just because something rattles.

Firstly a decent deadening will not only help prevent those nasty rattles (on if its coming from the door itself), but increase the midbass and midrange output from the speakers which is good. While you are at it, add some mass via some tape to the lock rods, they like to rattle alot, If could be the manual window crank, but generally the trim itself has enough weight not to resonate too easily..

Sorry, maybe i should have been a bit more specific. I didn't mean ones on the back doors, I meant the rear deck speakers, like these (http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/l/o/S8BackDeckSpeakers.jpg).

Does this car have grilles that have a little metal tab on them? They can sometimes rattle against the parcel shelf skin so adding some foam here will help.
