Hey guys I'm new to AMC but i've been browsing for awhile now

I have a 96 TE Exec and I understand it has a Mandrel bent 2.25 system? Something along those lines.

Anyways I've decided I want to upgrade my muffer, though the stock one is really loud but buzzes a lot at high revs which sounds like a wet fart. Actually i'm not even sure if it's stock, the muffler looks like a stock magna one but it's louder than other magnas I have heard.

I came across this one on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Redback-Megaflow-Sports-Muffler-2-25-in-out-14-long-/220780785450?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item33678f6f2a

Is this a good exhaust? I couldn't find much information on this exhaust on magnas.

I know the Lukey LR2779 is a good exhaust but the cheaper I can go the better, also if I bought an exhaust would a shop fit it for me?

Cheers.

An exhaust shop will tend to charge anywhere from $25 to $75 to fit a muffler depending on the scope of the job.

The lukey lr2779 is a good muffler and certainly will reduce the wet fart sound.

The te to my knowledge never came with a mandrel bent system so id be checking with an exhaust shop what you have exactly if you're not sure.

The te did however have a 2.25 inch exhaust system but press bent, which doesn't make much difference to power unless you're pushing huge amounts of power into your engine like say with a turbo setup.

Most p platers will add a noisy muffler for shits and giggles and cheaper isnt always better, as it turns out much like your wet fart sound, the more you pay the better quality itll be and the better quality it is the better the sound.

Oh I see, so the 3.5L Engines came with the Mandrel bent systems? If that exhaust in ebay isn't that great I might as well just save for the Lukey then.

I don't like loud mufflers, like cannons they look ridiculous on magna's in my opinion. But yeah thanks for the reply.

I heard Redback makes good muffles but im not sure if the Redback Megaflow Sports Muffler is any good, has anyone here got experience with this exhaust?

If not I'll just save up for a Lukey :)

If your standard system is loud, there are probably a few holes in it somewhere, in the muffler or pipes. The wet fart sound is most likely caused by that.

Mandrel bent system gives you smooth curves at pipe bends, pressed systems have bends that have wrinkles on the inside of them, so look under the car and decide for yourself.

The Walker/Lukey rear section is a bolt on part, muffler and pipes together, easy to fit yourself. Much easier than just buying the muffler which needs to be welded on, and muffler shops won't want to weld onto old pipes as it is a waste of time. I paid $179 for one a couple of weeks back. If the centre section is a problem, it is about the same price.

It's arguably the best aftermarket muffler for a third gen.

So the redback exhaust from ebay is a no go then?

Just stick to the lukey bolt on?

Does anyone know where to get the bolt on version from?

The factory exhaust is not much smaller than 2.5" aftermarket ones are, so I went to Carline Mufflers and they supplied and fitted a Lukey Muffler for about $150-$170.
