I know there has been a fair amount of discussion regarding exhausts and headers how ever just wanted peoples thoughts.

I went to see Pete @ exhaust world in Northbridge (wow he is a top bloke!) to get some prices and his thoughts.. Well What does everyone think of Redback & Pacemaker extractors?

Pete quoted me $1400 for a set of either Redback orPacemaker extractors with a 2.5" system which would also include a hi-flow cat or resonator i think he called it and 2x full stainless steel straight through mufflers & a single 4" tip or there was the option of making the outlet bigger and having twin 3" tips

Well lemme know what you think of the system and price! :pleasesign:

Cheers :)

The standard system is pretty efficient. You may not get your money's worth if it is $1400 and you expect better sound or greatly improved performance.
Standard cat back system components are about $350 so if your system has rusted out that is a cheaper option.
Then again, it is your money and your choice.

I have been told not to go bigger then a 2.5" system as the car is not turbo or anything...

And he is right in saying so.....

the extractors and better mufflers and high flow cat should also increase power a bit too yeah i know it will make it louder but gotta get that quietened down a bit

Id go for hm headers or xforce over pacemakers. Most pacemakers I've known about have fallen apart

well put it this way, we take cars to him from shenton park. simply put none of the local exhaust shops exhibit even an ounce of his professionalism.

+1 for stock FWD system flowing well.
From TJ 1.5 series onwards the exhaust was a 2.5" mandrel bend set up. What year and model Magna do you have Xclusive?
Decent headers and a straight through rear muffler will net you all the gains you you can get out of a naturally aspirated 6G72/4.
So from a bang for your buck perspective, you would only need the headers & a straight through rear muffler (and leave the rest of the system as is).
BTW the straight through rear muffler alone will net you almost all of the power gains anyway.

Hi flow cats will add more noise but in a N/A 6G74 magna any gains will be negligable as the factory cat already flows well. It's only if the OEM cat is old and getting clogged will a new cat/Hi flow cat make any difference in power gains & in magnas that usually equates to 150,000kms + before the cat is in need of replacement.

$1400 is alot of money to spend on a system that will net you a 7 or 8 kw gain if you're lucky, especially as it's not all stainless.
On the opposite end of the scale, getting a second hand muffler from a VRX magna and getting that fitted would be your cheapest option and would provide 90% of your power increase in a FWD Magna exhaust upgrade anyway.

At least with this info, you can decide how far you want to go in terms of spend.

As long as resonators and a good quality rear straight through muffler are used, will sound good without all that fart can raspiness.

Yea the car has about 280,000 on the clock so that's why im replacing the entire system from front to back and Pete has told me that the system he has recommended will give the car an "attitude" sound so we will see how it sounds.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and thoughts i am noting everything down. :)

Anyway i can get a lumpy exhaust tone without doing cams? or would that be pretty much almost near to impossible?

XCLUSIVE, it would be very hard to make a G74 sound lumpy as they are quite a smooth engine as you know, you'll never get them sounding like a V8 no matter how hard you try. I know of members who have tried but as I'd mentioned before, it just turns out sounding like a buzzy fart can.
The best option is to go a smaller straight through rear muffler which will make it louder and a bit rawer sounding - but keep the resonators. It's no secret that my personal preference is for magnaflow stainless straight through mufflers, which is what I have on my verada. For magnas at least, nothing surpasses their deep & beefy note, at least not compared to the OEM VRX, redback & lukeys that I've heard on different magnas over the years.

Yeah that's what I had already thought... and yeah iv decided to already go for a smaller straight through magna flow rear muffler.

Thanks again mate
