View Full Version : What are People Paying for 380s

Have had my Series 3 Vrx for sale in a number of different places including this forum for a few weeks now at $11000 without any interest.

Will list it in carsales in a couple of weeks but want to get the pricing right without "giving it away". Average asking price on carsales is $11500 but the few that are there seem to have been for sale for a while.

My question is for people who have recently purchased a 380. What sort of money did you pay for your car.

Cheers

Its not money thats the matter. Not many people want them. Id say its already priced fairly

9k seems to be the going rate for private sellers. Obviously more from a dealer since they can arrange finance & offer stat warranties

i decided to keep mine as its worth more to me as a well rounded car........ just finished a 2300km round trip and it drove flawlessly. Just wish they made em as a wagon

People know now that they are a great car at a great price but the problem is that V6's are hard to sell, this is the reason why you haven't sold it; the fuel consumption on the 380's is average when compared to many of the newer cars around.

I only do around 6,500kms a year in my 380 VRX so petrol consumption doesn't worry me but most buyers do 10,000+ kms/yr and are looking for a fuel consumption of under 10L/100km.

In the states they've had the American version of the 380 (Galant) out with a 2.4ltr engine for a few years now to get better fuel economy but the driveline/power will be nothing like the 3.8ltr V6 so personally I wouldn't touch it but it sells as the general public want better fuel consumption.

Those buyers who do want a 380 want to pay the least possible so you'll probably have to sell your car at least 10% cheaper, depending on the kms you have.

I've seen dealers selling my 2005 380 VRX with leather interior for 13-14k which is unbelievable so you should be able to get between 10-11k for yours, just have to wait for the right buyer.

I just brought a 2007 380 GT Series 2 with 105,000km's on it. Paid $9400. Had 6 months rego on it, brand new brakes and tyres all round, full service history. Still has its 5 year/130,000km warranty till February 2014. Interior is in great condition, exterior come up well after a polish and wax too. Best 380 i'd seen for sale under 10k and it was a bonus it was a GT Model. Car was a private sale, brought in QLD.

Hope this helps you out.

being a 2007 model, 5 year warranty ran out in 2012...........the extra year is only for the original purchaser's of the car during a promotional period

i assume yours is a dark grey GT. Was up on carsales for months, looked nice

I paid 15 for mine about 6 months ago with 87k. Walked in expecting to offer him 12 for it, but paid the 15. Couldnt fault the car at all, felt brand new. Figure im paying a bit extra for a snazzy paintjob and seats and a sunroof. Still think it was worth it

Yes dealers seem to be asking between $12000 and $15000 but private sales are averaging around $11500.
A couple of people on this forum have said they paid between $8500 and $10000 for good condition average Klm cars so prices all over the place.
At $11000 for one of the better equiped vehicles and some factory warranty remaining I think I am close to the mark to move it relatively quickly.

how did you get a "restarted" factory warranty?

from what i understand the 380 warranties are 5 year + 1 year for the original owner. The extra year is non-transferable. But then you hear stories of dealers extending warranties, however im guessing these are the usual 3rd party million clause deals?

Mitsu Miyagi
23-08-2013, 10:45 AM
Still think it was worth it

nothing wrong with what you paid. You really wanted the car, and you paid what it cost to get it, now your happy. The price is absolutely worth it, until if/when you decide to sell is the only time it will hurt.

but until that time, enjoy the car.

Genuine mitsubishi restarted 5 year warranty on used 380s. Lots of them around in 2008 2009. Completley transferable. Paperwork from mitsubishi in the car confirming.

Yep, I have a series 3 SX with this restarted warranty too. Was only available buying it used from selected Mitsubishi dealers - I just had a repair done last week under warranty and the servicing dealer mentioned it was the "Black Diamond" warranty program.

You got a fresh 5 year warranty from purchase date (to a max of 130,000km) - mine was 2 years old with 34k at the time of purchase and it runs until June 2014. The salesman at the dealer I bought from claimed that Mitsubishi gave the selected cars the once over in the factory before selling them (not so sure about that). I believe the cars under this program were ex fleet/rentals of some sort that Mitsubishi offered a buy-back program on to the original owners.

I was also advised this re-set warranty is transferable to any subsequent owner. <-- Actually, just checked my warranty certificate, and it says "limited to the original purchaser detailed below", and it's called "Diamond Advantage", not Black Diamond. Definitely says 5 years from date of purchase shown on the certificate, limited to 130,000km.

I paid $14,950 for my unregistered sx in Jan 2008 & it only had 24,000 klm on the clock. I bought it off the back of a truck at Mitsubishi a dealer in Toowoong - Brisbane. I then had them do a roadworthy on it & had them register it for me.
It came with a Mitsubishi 5 years full cover warranty. It only belonged to MMAL in SA before me.

Best score ever.
I have since given it to my son & it now has 100,00 k's on the clock & it's still going strong. Actually,, just today we coned a Mitsubishi dealer into upgrading the firmware for us & it goes like a rocket now. it runs out of warranty in Jan 2014.
It's still in Mint condition & if he sold it tomorrow he would get close to what I paid for it.

I have been looking for the past month and a half and definitely you will buy a good 380 with low km's and service history below 9k and more likely closer to 8k . That is privately though .

They are not selling quick either I am watching 3 as we speak

Nope they scrubbed the ecu and reprogrammed it from scratch with a fix for cold start problems, not sure if it has any other tweaks but it sure does seem to go harder now & use less juice.

There's a regular AMCer whose 380 has more kms than that on it, but still looks/drives like new. I've also driven another 380 with 210k+ on it and it also drove brilliantly.

High km cars aren't my thing, but 380s seem to be holding out better with high kms than what the 3rd gens have been.

Yeah im with red on that one, wouldnt go for a car with 250000 on it merely out of preference.

My 2nd gen has 156000 on it and looks and drives like new, but ive also spent a shitload on it, when and if I ever sell it, someone will be getting a bargain and wont realise it, ill take a look at the 380 if anyones interested

Spare parts are eventually going to be the killer with the 380. You have to really search hard already for pretty much anything mechanical you may need, imagine what it will be like in a few years.
Mitsubishi is not going to back them with spares for ever either. I bet when the last 380 runs out of warranty so will their backup!
They are a strong car I'll give them that much,,but they are ugly as hell, especially from the rear.
They steer to the RIGHT like a pig & have the turning circle of an aircraft carrier.
They are not economical on fuel around town & weigh a Ton.
They are as kitch as kitch can be on the inside with that funky dash & that horrible fake carbon fiber panel. I laugh when I here you fan boys drooling over them.
I think that when they where first released they where already an outdated dinosaur. A front wheel drive V6, what a waste of a decent motor. It's a tweaked Yank Tank.

If I was you guys,, I would be selling your 380's now while you can still get a decent price,, because eventually people are going to wake up & realize how costly it will be to own one.

I bought mine for $6500 about a week ago.
2006 series 2 with 110k on the clock (service book and receipts of servicing were provided as well)
major service including replacement of all brake discs and brake pads, replacement of all spark plugs, replacement of timing belt and a lot of other crap was done at 100k
Rear spoiler
aftermarket muffler
7" DVD touch screen head unit
18" aftermarket rims
4 brand new tyres (for the rwc)

The car is very clean inside out and feels like new inside!

I think I got a very good deal looking at how much the rest of you paid for your 380s :)

the sad thing is I have the receipt from the dealer... he paid 12k for the car a year and 2 months ago XD
and THEN wheels+tyres cost him $1500 a year ago, another $700 for the new tyres he put on at the road worthy, 7" player around the $400 mark, muffler and spoiler i'd say another 600-700...

FWIW, I put a deposit on a 2007 380 GT on Saturday (picking it up on Wednesday) - $10,000, including RWC. 166,000 K's, clean as a whistle. Only minor changes I might make (other than floor mats and dash mat) are replacing the silver dash trim with woodgrain (same for the shift knob), and maybe a Galant 90mm snorkel...

Looked on FleaBay, Gumtree, and CarSales - saw 2007 GT's ranging from 9K to about 15. Still a helluva lot of car for the money; similar age / equipped Falcons (which I was originally after) and Boganodores are pulling 3 - 6 grand more...

Silver or black marble, they're going! I must confess, I didn't pay all that much attention to them during the test drive, only had the impression they were silver from the classified ad - just had a look at the interior photo in the ad, there's a reflection on one, making it look silver...

In any case, I'm really looking forward to getting it - it's an upgrade from the TJ Advance I've had for the last year, which has been great!

Yep. I'm in an unusual financial position - lots of moola in the bank, but ZERO income during the last 2 years and about 1 year to come. So I'm sticking to essentials at the moment, bills, food, car repairs, etc. I will loosen the purse strings when things become clearer financially.

Max, I know where you are coming from. After my second divorce in 1999 I really struggled financially for six or seven years. A lop-sided divorce settlement and massive child support payments almost killed me.

But about four years ago the finances started to look a lot better. Decent income, much smaller child support payments, bugger all loans/debts.

Recently got to the stage where I could easily afford to pay north of $50k for a decent car.

So don't give up on your dream of owning a 380, in a year or two's time you should be able to buy a nice one for little more than $7,000.

MadMax

Should be sooner than that. lol
There are a couple of questions about my long term finances, but once they settle in 6 to 12 months time, I will know if it is sensible to splurge $10K on a 380.

Common story, by the way, divorce + child payments = short of cash. You'd be surprised how many blokes have been through that. Count me as one, anyway.

I just bought one. Got it at auction in Melbourne. A Silver Series 3 Platinum with March 08 compliance. 110 k on the clock, one owner fully serviced and well maintained. Rego no XAN-380. Easily the best car I have had the pleasure to drive, let alone own ! I got it for $9106.
My prior car was 96 4 cylinder Magna which i have owned since 2000. I wore the Magna out pretty much although it still runs amazingly well.
My new 380 I am extremely pleased with, I could not be happier. I will keep it for as long as I can and may whack it on gas.

Late to the conversation, but I sold my S1 Manual VRX, with leather, sunroof, and a few minor bits on it for $12,500 back in June ($500 more than I listed it here). It had 98,000km on the clock when I sold it, so due for the major service.
Guy who bought it was just interested in getting a hold of a manual and was stoked to find one with the bells'n'whistles as opposed to a base model.
Having said that, I spotted it in a caryard a couple of weeks ago, so maybe he ran out of funds or something. Oh well, not my problem now, just hope it gets looked after (unlike my old magna which I still see around and has gone to shit.........)

Still stop and gave chats to random owners of 380s when I can..they all speak highly of them and are pretty sure a ford or Commodore would be a step down...

regardless ford/holden being better/worse, they win hands down in the popularity stakes............ and thats what makes them hold their value a little better and makes them alot easier to sell. Although the trend that has affected the NEW large car market, is also showing in the used market as well. Everyone either wants a small 4 banger, mid size suv, or large dual cab ute/4wd.

Hi everyone,
I don't know about you guys but I don't care what my 2006 Series II LS is worth now. I love it and have no plans to sell it. I purchased it for $15,500 two years ago with 50,000 kms (140,000 now) on the clock. It was a one owner with full service history. I then spent quite a few thousand $ upgrading the suspension, exhaust, wheels, tyres and the audio system. A little effort brought up the paint work to a beautiful shine (i can't get the pics from my phone to load up here!!). Now it looks great still and drives like a dream. I have never had a problem with it (apart from the ECL which is always on) and get it serviced regularly. MY mechanic thinks its a great car.
Sure there are some newer cars out there which have better fuel economy, but lets face it they are a dime a dozen. Our 380's are rare and getting rarer. At least I know when people see my car they take a second look at it because it isn't like every other one on the road. I've seen pics of your cars and I bet they do the same. They all look great with heaps of character. I wouldn't trade my 380 for anything else except perhaps a better one!!!

Cheers

Saw a gold 380 in a car yard, 2005, 138,000 km, $8990. Gives you an idea anyhow, on car yard prices in Adelaide.

We were there for the wife to take a 2011 Lancer off the lot. I was tempted with the 380, but we have enough (Mitsu) cars at the moment to keep me busy washing/servicing. lol

Yep. I'd love one that is 2 years old (at most) and at less than 40,000 km. And a wagon. Do I have a chance? lol

Good point Kevin. I used to get second looks all the time in my 380, after the mods I did and the way I looked after the paintwork I reckon it looked pretty schmick even if it had the boring base model bars & grill. I expected to get a lot more second looks in my fancy J-a-a-a-a-a-g, but I haven't got even one yet after driving it around for six weeks now!

Just sold one of my 380's - 2007 series 3 SX with approx 78,000km, for $8,000. Was in good condition mechanically, but paintwork wasn't fantastic (a few chips and scratches), far from terrible though.

Only had a single enquiry (first weekend it was advertised), luckily that guy bought it. Was asking $8,950, but had already bought a new car and wanted it gone, so you know what they say, a bird in the hand...

A bit more feedback in case anyone else is interested in current prices 380's are fetching (in WA at least). Sold another 380 a week ago - Oct 2007 series 3 SX with approx 79,000km, for $6,500. Was in excellent condition all around, apart from bumpers paintwork was in near new condition, less than 9,000km on tyres etc, but once again, bugger all interest.

Only one enquiry again, but they bought it. Was hoping to get $8k if I was lucky, expecting more like $7.5k, but had already bought another 380  (for a very fair price), so it made no sense to be a tight ass and hold out for more.

It's sad that 380s and third gens don't command the value of Crapadores and Falcrumbs. I maintain that they were probably the finest cars ever built in this country to a very high quality standard. Before I bought my latest third gen I was almost at the point of buying an LS with all the woodgrain, a cream leather interior, etc. It had 89,000k on the clock and the yard wanted ten and a half grand for it, which placed it out of my budget, sadly.
