Hi guys,
I currently have a 380 with a Pioneer double din head unit and rear JL-Audio 6x9s + subs. Looking to upgrade the front splits. I was planning on getting the matching JL fronts, but found these Polk Audio 6.5"s http://www.polkaudio.com/products/db6501 for a good price.

These however are 100W RMS (my rears are 50 or 60W RMS) (not sure if thats per channel?) however I don't plan on running an amp, and it'll be coming off the Pioneer head unit which I believe is MOSFET 50W x 4, so my question is, is it going to sound horrible without an amp? Also, the rears are rated higher, from what I know the head unit is around 15-25W RMS per channel, so will I get considerably better performance running an amp (Sony Xplod 2/4ch amp for example?)

Anybody had any experience with Polk? (I always thought they were a decent brand, I could be wrong though) as well as placement. I've read through the other threads where it's noted you get much better sound by moving the tweeters out from under the grilles?

Thanks for your anybodys help/input I really appreciate it :)

At 92 Db sensitivity, these should do OK, but will sound better with an amp. With all thing being equal, these should give you double the volume of a speaker set with 89 Db efficiency... ( although strangely, its arguable that humans think double the volume is a 6 Db increase :shrugs: ). Passing the speakers at 80Hz will help with a little more volume. As for exposing the tweeter. Have a friend talk to you, through a plastic sieve, whilst turning their head sideways, and bounce the sound off a window, and see how good they sound, there are exceptions to the rule tho, but it takes a lot of install/tuning knowledge to get around it....

Nothing wrong with polks, they've enjoy popularity round here for ages. As does Hertz, Morel and a few others. I'd give them a listen though, all speakers sound the same on the internet....

Installing the speakers will make a difference, and undoubtedly sound good, the more care and effort into the installation, will make the difference between good and great....
