Hi all.

Having issues with the installation of a reverse camera in the 380. I cannot obtain a picture from the camera and are almost certain the wiring is correct.

The head unit is a Pioneer AVH2300DVD and the camera is a Pioneer Rcam1 (White box with that printed on it). Bought the cam from jb for $99.

Instructions indicate to connect the positive to the accessory 12v so I just paralleled it with the amps. The ground I've just grounded with the head unit grounding. Getting a clean 12.57v from the points. Also tapped the 12v+ from the reverse light for the reverse trigger cable for auto switching. Enabled the reverse cam option as battery and video output as auto.

So far no video. Success in the picture turning when in reverse only to see a black screen. Tried selecting the cam to operate via ground and black screen emerges in park and turns off in reverse. Paralled reverse light 12v to camera 12v and no picture. Also tried to parallel the ground in the reverse light and still no picture. The reverse camera has its own dedicated input "rcam" located on the rear of the deck. Changed the cam to the av input (composite connection) to verify its not the input thats at fault.

No obvious kinks in cable and also taken the wiring to the headunit to eliminate interference etc but I have no idea what to do from here. Im sure I've nailed my troubleshooting to be the camera at fault.

Anyone got suggestions?

Is there a black protective sticker on the camera lense?

Nope it had a clear plastic protectant film, that is all.

Have you tried changing the settings on the deck to see if that changes anything?

Yeah I've tried changing the switch settings and also the video output settings. The only thing that changes with the settings is when the video feed (black screen) comes on and which input it's coming through.

Installing a reverse camera is supposed to be very simple & straight forward. Sounds like you have a headunit with very strange settings & still not sure what kind of camera you have & connections its got

had a quick look at the user manual for that HU, says to try another signal setting as "AUTO" might lead to wrong setting with black screen

EDIT: youve already tried that.

So it was a faulty camera it turns out to be. Went down to JB today and consulted with the salesman about it and he just gave me a new one, no questions asked. Apparentely the Rcam-1 from Pioneer have a high failure rate as it's been a couple of times hes heard this issue. Would not suggest for any members on here to buy into them. Thanks for your help everyone!
