Can anyone help?
I've just purchased a 2000 Verada 138k's which I'm very happy with. However, the interior lights don't come on when you open a door.
The lights work manually from the manual switches and the door swithches turn on the red lights in the door trim when you open them.
They won't however turn on the interior lights.
All fuses are OK.
Any ideas? :tired:

Hey richo,
I had that same problem on my 2003 AWD Magna Sports. There's a spring-loaded switch at the bottom of the door frame on the car's body. Sometimes it gets a little sticky, while other times the rubber housing for it can get loose, which stops the switch from activating. It may be just plain faulty too. A replacement from a wrecker should only be a few dollars. It's only attached to the car via a phillips head screw and a detachable wire.

The easiest way to tell if it is the switch Mcada is referring to is to open the door and look at your instrument cluster. If the red door open icon is not lit up, that switch needs replacing. If it is, your problem lies elsewhere. Also, this is probably really obvious so I apologise if you've tried it but just to rule it out, make sure that the interior light switch is set to the middle position. There is OFF, ON and a * one in the middle which means on with doors.

Thanks Mcada and Jakeys. It seems the switches on all doors are working in that the red light in the front door trims come on when they are opened, and the red light shows on the dash that a door is open. Regarding the light itself, when I press the centre switch which you mentioned Jakeys, it just turns the light on but doesn't effect what happens when the doors are opened. Could that swith be faulty? I have the centre on plus an on and off button either side. What do you think?

Hey mate, so we can rule out your door switches being faulty, beyond that I'm afraid I'll have to defer to someone else. As you have a Verada, do your footwell and rear pillar lights (On the pillars behind the back seats) also not come on? If so, I would think that would rule out the physical switch as well as that switch only controls the centre light I THINK. Beyond that, I don't know enough about the electronics sorry!
See if anything else is out also, could always be as simple as a fuse.

the door light in the dash has nothing to do with the light.....the buttons either side set up what happens to the light,,not sure what sequence it is ,but ,it is all off ,manual on and door on ..you may have to play around with the positioning of then ..generally you want the middle one on....also ,remember ,you have a delay function on the circuit ,so that may affect what you are trying to see

Yeh, I've checked and tried everything. Played with the switches in the light. The rear lights are not working either. Also they won't work manually by their swirches. I've checked all the fuses... all O.K. Something weird going on here!

Also, the footwell lights are not coming on either.

the door light in the dash has nothing to do with the light.....
No, the door light in the dash does have something to do with the roof light. He has already said his roof light works in the manual on or off position, it is only with doors that it doesn't come on. We have been saying that the door light in the dash is directly linked with his roof light's door position, which it is, you can't have one without the other as they both work based on the door sensors. If his door sensors were busted, the dash light would not come on either thus we could demonstrate the problem lies with his door switches. Since his dash light does come on, we have eliminated the switches as the fault.

Mine will work automatically but not manually which is annoying.

Could it be a problem with the body computer maybe...?
