Well I've had this car for a week now just local driving and here is what I've found.
First off I'm really warming to this car.
The body is straight and rust free. The interior is immaculate. The rear seat looks like it has never been sat on.

I have the Service Book and every service to 100k is stamped by the local Mrs dealer.

I has 185000kms, 4 mths rego and I got it for $500.
The second owner, whom I bought it from was in his early 80's when he bought it.
He gave up his license a couple of years ago and his girlfriend, also in her 80's has been the driver since.
Talk about the little old lady who only drove to church on Sundays...
It had new half shafts 5 yrs ago and a new muffler about a month ago.
Also has a fairly new looking Kenwood CD player.
Anyway the things it needs.

Sounds like rear w/bearings.
More of a whirring noise than a bearing rumble.
Now it seems the bearing can only be bought as part of the hub.Have any of you heard of pressing out the old bearing and replacing it with a bearing bought from the supplier?
Given that the hub is about $60 I wonder if there could be a substantial saving to be had here.
I'm a pensioner and every dollar saved ...

Timing chain a little rattly at idle when hot.
What is the wear like on sprocket and guides? We use to break a link ,join a new chain and wind it on til it came out the other end on MB V8's.
A risky job because of the chance it might jump a tooth or two but saves heaps of time for a stretched chain.

Tranny needs a service, oil starting to turn brown.
It has also been overfilled.

And thats about it.

Its a bigger car than I thought but that maybe because I'm coming from a Beetle.
And the turning circle is way out there.

Anyway, as I said I'm really warming to this car.

No pics. Its just a white TR sedan. Same as all the other ones. Except it has one hubcap missing.
Cheers.
