I've seen some people here have installed TL/TW steering racks in the older 3rd gens.
What benefit does this give exactly?
And if anyone knows, are there different rear swaybar sizes?
I expect the RalliArt is thicker, but what about the Sport, GTV, TL/W etc?

The TL/TW have a more solid feel to them, feels more "grounded" for lack of a better work.
Obviously with the swaybar the aftermarket ones are thicker but if you are talking factory I was pretty sure they were all a standard size?

Do the steering racks have less power assistance or something?
Or less turns lock to lock?
Yes I only meant if the factory rear swaybars come in different sizes or they are all the same

I've got a TJ sedan and a TL wagon. The TJ feels vaguer in a straight line, needs more small steering wheel corrections to keep it on the straight, and loads up more around corners. TL is more relaxing to drive as a consequence.

How expensive is the TL/W rack and how expensive is supply and fit, does anyone know? Second hand or new.
And to throw in an answer, GTV was the same as Sports/VR-X, I don't know about Ralliart but I don't think it would be different.

Tl is he same as the ralliart and feels much nicer on the road
The tl rear sway bar is the same size as the tj sports/ VRX

how hard is it to remove and install a steering rack?

I'd say the front crossmember would need to come down, at least a little bit.
Is it just the steering rack that makes all the difference or is there something with the geometry too?

Would be geometry too, may even need the pump.
Why do you think this was said? Get the whole lot at once, not just the rack.

I think my TL feels better than the KH, less corrections required with better control feel at the straight ahead position when traveling at speed. Feels firmer too. But having driven both the difference is not very significant IMO. Its subjective, the KH feels better when parking, lighter, for instance. The TL is ultimately less vague but still not perfect.
Now, the leather covered wheel really makes a difference though, much better grip!

KWAWD, would you say the better steering of the TL is worth the effort/cost to upgrade to?

Pre-empting KWAWD's reply a bit here!
In my humble opinion, the answer is a negative. Unless there is another reason, like your rack is damaged or leaking, and needs replacing anyway.

KWAWD, would you say the better steering of the TL is worth the effort/cost to upgrade to? i'd say no. Its one of those things; nice that theres an improvement but its too little to get excited about.
Better things to spend the money on, IMO.

I disagree totally, for anyone wanting to improve the feel of the car this is one of the first things I recommend and one of the first things I do to any of my own cars as well. All good having stiffer suspension etc but when the steering wheel feels like a bucket of porridge then what is the point

Madmagna, can you confirm the difference is more than just the steering rack?

Well, i'm only going by my first impressions. I dont remember first getting into the KL and thinking, "wow, great steering".. But theres no doubt it is better. If Spetz's cars steering is worn then, sure, I'd say it would be worth the upgrade.
