Hi All,
Took my daughters 1998 Magna for a long run. Next day the motor developed a ticking sound audible inside the car when driving.
Does not increase in speed when motor reved, seems to be coming from rear of engine near firewall.
Performance does not appear to be affected.
Also is there an OBCD plug on this model? If so where?

The plug you are looking for is under the dash, about where the driver's left knee is. Uses Mitsu's own protocol though.

Ticking is usually from the hydraulic lifters being blocked - some members have found that after an engine flush and oil change to Penrite HPR15 that the ticking sound disappears.

The Magna has a diagnostics port but it is not OBD2 compliant and is not compatible with most scantools readily available. You'd need a scan tool that is MUT2 compatible e.g. genuine MUT2 scantool, hanatech ultra series, etc.

You can still read error codes though, using a paper clip.

A mechanical noise will not be diagnosed on a scanner anyway, hell I really wish this was able to be done as would save me so much time chasing noises etc in an engine bay

Thank you all.
Engine oil and filter changed every 5000 klms. usually 20W50.
Will see if I can locate where it is centred and go from there.
Pity about the OBD2 as have a unit.
Will post reults if any.
Again thank you all.
