Hey guys I’m having trouble with my cooling system.

I noticed this a month back when i was on the highway and got stuck at roadwork for a while every time load was taken off the engine the temperature gauge would creep up by just under 1 dash and this is annoying me.

we live in a hilly area so I’ve take the car for a spirited drive through the hills and it stays normal doesn’t go soaring up just keeps in the middle but once load is taken off it will do this (eg: ac compressor kicks out or decelerating or put in neutral)

I’ve checked the fluid level and that’s all fine, I don’t think there is any air in the system as i attempted to bleed the system when I checked the fluids so I’m stumped. I do have a hunch that it may be the thermostat though, but I can’t be sure so here is a video demonstrating what happens. Note the aircon was off and this was just after a spirited drive. also note that in the video where the gauge is at is as high as it will go. I can’t make it do any higher.

also before this happened i would never ever see the gauge rise above halfway even on the hottest of days in traffic.

Could be related to battery voltage. On my old 4wd if I turn the headlights on the gauge will creep up a bit like that due to the reduced voltage to gauges. But yours seems to move a lot slower so it's probably something else, worth checking out though if you have a muilti meter.

Check your cooling fan is coming on is the pass side one

also feel your 2 large radiator hoses when your car is at running temp, they should both feel hot to touch, if the bottom radiator hose feels cooler then the top radiator hose, then your thermostat may not be opening fully.

sorry for a late reply I've had alot of uni work to do.

both thermo fans are working fine
ie. they are off with the ac off until the car gets up to temp then one turns on (the one closest to he battery) and the other will only come on after the car has been run on a really hot day unless i turn the air con on.

edit: it appears the bottom hose is cooler than the top one...

edit2: problem solved, took the car in for its long awaited service and got them to do the thermo for me... 54 buck for the thermo + gasket fitted, not including the radiator flush.
