Hello,
Whilst cleaning up the rear rocker cover gasket oil leak, (Just did the front one a few weeks back) I noticed my right hand side steering boot is cracked all the way thru. Is it a "simple" job to just replace it, or does more need to be done? No loss of power steering fluid and steering works fine. Just would like to know what I may be up for, booked in with the steering specialist 500m down the road for Tuesday. (Will get them to do the rocker cover gasket too).

Cheers!

P.S it is a TW AWD

Tie rod end off and replace boot, then tie rod end back on and wheel align. Im pretty sure thats it. Not a hard job at all. Under an hour for someone who knows what there doing and over if they dont..:)

Release the lock nut on the back of the tie rod, then undo the tie rod end bolt most of the way.
The tie rod end may not pop out of the hub assembly so easily. Preferably have a separating tool on hand. If you want to give it a go without one, hammer the joint (that the the tie rod end bolt sits in) and if your lucky, it will pop. Dont hit any part of the tie rod end.
If you get past there, as you are spinning the tie rod off, note the amount of turns. When putting it back, start it in the position it came off and then wind it in to the same spot.
Good luck!

+1 for shezza. Just check the joint when you take the boot off, make sure it isn't crudded up.
