Have been reading the various posts regarding TS V6 clutch issues and I deduced that mine is in need of replacement, at least the Clutch plate. Problem is it has only done 66000k since I bought the car and replaced the clutch some 7 years ago.
Know I am getting slip when accelerating reasonably hard in 2nd and 3rd. To me the wear is a bit premature given that I am a mature driver and do not do Smokey Rollbacks or wheel spinning take offs. Crowd that replaced the clutch originally have quoted me trade rate of $707 to replace it which from what I have read on here sounds reasonable that of course would be the complete kit as I can,t see where one can buy just the plate. Any opinions would be appreciated Majordad

The clutch is replaced as a kit is because of the labour cost to do the job.
Not much point if you have do the same again because another part failed 6 mths later.

Are you sure that you or another driver does not rest the foot on the clutch pedal?

There was a woman with an Alfa GTV V6 that came to the shop for warranty.
She used to rest her left foot on the pedal and went through the clutch plate in 6000ks.
New car.
So I'm just saying.

Ok. Always good to start at the beginning.
Is there an oil leak in the bellhousing area, including underneath?
Thats a possibility.

Also, because of my age, could you explain what a "Smokey Rollbacks" is?
Cheers.

Verandah,

Definitely no oil leaks under this car that's the first thing I checked as well as operation of the release lever all good there. The dude from United Clutch who fitted the replacement 6 years back talked about the possibility of bent or broken fingers on the pressure plate diaphragm causing slippage but I could not get my head around how that would come about without some serious abuse other than dodgy quality of whatever kit they used. majordad

Verandah,

Forgot to explain the "Smokey Rollback" that was when we where young and stupid, put the car in 1st gear on a slight rise, wait until it started rolling backwards then give it heaps and drop the clutch. Did wonders for old Holden diffs that move

Going by what you say, it may indeed be a broken pressure plate spring.
The only way to tell is to take clutch out.
