View Full Version : Slight engine stumble at idle, normal?

So about the only problem I can find with my newly acquired Verada is the seems to be a slight and periodic stumble at idle, infact it almost seems to have a pattern to it. It's smooth for about 2 seconds then 1 small stumble, slight pause, then a few more stumbles then goes smooth again, repeat. Happens both in gear and out of it, slightly (slightly) worse in gear
Doesn't bother me much but just wondering if its normal for these engines? or is there something I should look at?
Goes like a raped ape when I put my foot down, nice sound and smooth throughout otherwise

Magnas were never blessed with a smooth idle, even from factory.
Check the condition of your drivers side engine mount, clean out the throttle body, and if you're feeling adventurous, replace your spark plugs and consider replacing your leads.
Even after replacing it all, its unlikely you'll achieve a completely smooth idle.

was this the same for the 6g72? Because mine was pretty awful and I did all of the above and it didnt get any better. A mechanic said my MAF needed a clean, but to no avail.
As for my 6g74, its pretty much perfect. A hinttttt of a stutter, but hardly even worth mentioning!

ive just bought a 2002 verada and mine has the same slight stutter at idle, my 2001 magna never did it, im going to book it in for a service soon just to get it checked over and new plugs and leads.

I also think that this is normal. The KH always did this from new. KL does it too, although much less.
If you're experiencing what i'm referring to then its very slight, almost unnoticeable most of the time. I notice it in the KH sitting at idle for a long time and it gets slightly worse, so maybe something to do with air-fuel mix regulation.

I did 320,000Km with the last car and it never idled smoothly like the loan cars when it was serviced - it seems some cars are smooth and others are not - BUT! the idle speed controller on the inlet is very susceptible to carbon/oil build up so it would be worth getting the inlet butterfly area professionally cleaned.
