Hi first post and sorry if you have answered before could not find it,
Pls bare with me I have a tj 2001 with 179xxx on it not sure what has been done no log book..
So I'm driving on the free way and it took bout 15 mins for my temp gauge to teach half way.. On the way back I noticed it had lowered to about 1/4 When I get to my suburb and start going 60kms the temp gauge goes back up to half way.. Just wondering if its normal? The engine some times has a lil burnt smell but very rarly..
Second question in melbourne west where can I get a driver seatbelt replaced and however pls?

The irregular engine temperature is not normal.
Considering the lack of log book I'd get a new thermostat and while at it consider a radiator flush.
The burnt smell might be leaky rocker cover gaskets. I had this and on longer drives oil would go on the exhaust manifold and produce a burnt smell.
I changed them myself, they cost around $35 X 2 and my fuel economy became better by about 10%

Could be a new thermostat was fitted and they didn't put it in properly, leaving a gap for the coolent to bypass it.

Temp gauge should always sit on half way, if is sitting on a quarter then there is an issue. Fans will not make a car run cool even if running all the time

Oh really? Is there anyone you guys would recommend I take it to get looked over then?

We can look at the car if you wish, have the equipment to determine what actual temp the motor is running at so as to determine if the fault is with the gauge or the cooling system

Hi, will do thanks ..
Sorry to steal this thread, but anyone know, esp Mal, whether it is easy or can be done to replace the drivers seatbelt on the later models with pretensioners?
Cheers,
Vlad
