Hi. I have been reading the messages on Heater Core issues. I am experiencing the windows fogging problem and the smell however there is no evidence of leakage (as yet). With summer almost upon us, I won't need the heater for some time so would like to delay the expensive replacement. I read on one of the posts that an answer was to bi-pass the heater core. Is this advisable and if so, are there any complications?. Another post spoke about using Stop Leak?. Views? Thanks

yes you can by-pass , the heater has water running through it all the time , so unless your prepared to pull the dash out , you need to bypass

stop leak ...Nahhhh....

Don't use Stop Leak. You'll likely clog up something that shouldn't be well before it does anything substantial to the heater.
Bypass it if need be, but do keep in mind that it really is only a temporary fix. With summer coming up and and the heat adding more stress to the cooling system, I'd be more inclined to replace it sooner rather than later.

You should obviously make sure its your heater core, lift up the passenger side carpet in the foot well, grab the underlay/mlv underneath and see if its wet, if it is wet chances are it is your heater core.

Its not a hard job, Its the seals on the core where the black inlet/outlet elbows join to the core that leak, not the core itself. However since I had to pull my dash out for it, I replaced the Core, the two seals and the two inlet/outlet elbows while I was at it, total cost of parts were about $170 where as if you just did the seals the job costs about $6.

You will need a torx key set to remove the elbows from the core and get to the seals, these are under $10 from Autobarn.
