G'day guys...
I've just noticed the past few nights that my roof comes up with these 'lines' on it. It doesn't happen during the day, only when cold at night. Anybody have a guess as to exactly what causes it or what it is?

Wrap it to prevent any further degredation from the elements ;) '

A nice black matt wrap will look great on the roof.

Yeah I thought it would have something to do with the paint.

And yes the roof matte black would look interesting for sure! Has anyone done it before?

Haha racing stripes...good for a few kw at the rear wheels :p lol

That would be very handy if I was to go that way...if anyone has photos of what it looks like, I'd love to see them!

Guys, Tech Area + Spam = NO......

Heath, if you are going to get this fixed get it fixed properly, you have a nice car so please dont wreck it with a home fix

You can get the roof painted , M M Groves as a guess would charge around the $800 to properly strip the roof and repaint or you could get painted black, only thing with Magna's is the black roof does not look as good as say the 380 as there is really no line as such where you can get a neat transition from the black to the silver

Alright cool thanks Mal, I'll give it some thought.

My opinion is black roof only suits a very limited number of cars, and a Magna is is not one.

What kind of care did you take for the paintwork?

And do people think had the car been waxed every month or two then this would have been avoided?

No. The clearcoat issue is a known defect from factory, affecting 3rd gens and 380s. Even vehicles whose paint is maintained beyond reasonable means are susceptible to it, though less likely to be affected by it.

No. The clearcoat issue is a known problem with paints from that era.

Fixed it for you. lol Not just the Magnas, have a look at other makes of the same vintage. Same problem.

Is it a defect that affects all cars, or is it just some which are affected?
ie, could two equivalent cars treated exactly the same (ie, parked outside, rarely washed, rarely waxed) show different signs in the case where one would be fine and the other would peel?
Or are they all affected and the ones that haven't peeled are the ones that were garaged, washed often and waxed regularly?
