Some bas**** has broken the antenna off the Magna TH, is there much to buying a replacement unit and trying to install it? Happy to have a go at it myself but never done this before so will heed advice from others who have done this.

just did this
the electric ones fron autobarn etc actually dont fit without modification and running wires
it doesnt sit behid the black metal plate that holds the boot release mech
we ended up just grabbing another manual one...even then the clamp bar that tightens the aerial to the black plate isnt long enough or facing the right way and cant be moved
we ended up using a pair of stiltsons for grip on the bottom of the aerial while the misses tighten the aerial from the outside
also the rubbers arent the same.
so its not a straight forward direct swap over
even thou you would think it would be

Thanks Pearl sounds too complicated for me, i'll just use a manual one, did you get yours from autobarn?

we got the manual one from supercheap for around 42 or 45 $$
youll notice the diff in the brackets straight away
we removed all the boot moulding around the aerial and took pics
i think its A88 code on the packet Aerpro brand, but im not 100% sure

yeah the auto one stuck right out and you wouldnt be able to get th moldings back on then you need some ind of loom or running wires and thats certainly not my forte
manual one we just leave up two inchs and push down if parking in a carpark...too easy

Thanks Pearl. I actually made some enquiries about the power antenna and they vary in price from about $100 to $200. The cost of installation varies even more from $70 at Autobarn to $180 at a placer close to us. The guy from Autobarn seemed to think it wasn't much work to put in and any competent diyer could do it. If anyone has done it what was your experience?

my experience is absolutely none when it comes to running wires
thats certainly something i have absolutely no idea about
when we removed the old manual one and sat the electric one in as a mock up we couldnt get the electric one to sit behind the black plate that the boot release mech is on
yet the manual one fits snug behind it
ive still got the electric one here sitting in the shed.
if i ever sell the car ill just throw it in
the manual one was a bit easier to fit
id suggest take the manual one out scoot down with it to autobarn and then you can see the slight diff in the two manual ones i mention previously with the little bracket
any home diyer with half a clue could prob bend a piece of thing flat stainless/metal and drill a hole in it and make their own bracket

but hey, if you can get someone to fit an electric one and its all nice and snug and all the boot carpet and trim goes back in and you cant even tell the diff then maybe thats an option

we got to the point where crickey its just an aerial, a manual one will do us
we just pull the manual one all the way out and then push it all back in from the top leave about a two inch fatter section of aerial sitting out
if you need some pics ill grab some later on or tomorrow and upload them
:)
