Quick question...did the 1985 leaded fuel Magna's come equipped with EFI as an option??
Or was EFI released to coincide with unleaded fuel in 1986.

There was definitely no leaded fuel EFI version. In fact I don't think efi was introduced until the TN model in 1987. At least my Gregory's workshop manual for TM does not cover EFI. I bought an unleaded TM brand new in January 87 but its build date was 1986. I still have the owner's manual. Mine was a GLX but the manual covers SE and Elite as well. The engine bay diagrams and servicing information in the owners manual only show carby.

You may find the odd one that someone upgraded to EFI themselves. Not hard to do just get a donor car.
This new "Astron II" engine featured hydraulic mounts and counterbalancing shafts (technology adopted by, amongst others, Porsche, for their large 4-cylinder 924-944-968 models) to reduce vibrations, characteristic of large 4-cylinder engines. Initially, these Australian engines were carburetted, with Mitsubishi's "ECI Multi" electronic Fuel injection (EFI) version launched in April 1987.

Just curious about all the model differences...I've got a TP Elite,but I've never really hear of the executive safari wagon. The safari name takes my memory back to the Valiant Wagons! What were the TP Safaris like? Cheers,Steve

Safari was an executive wagon with a sticker down the side and little else, if I remember correctly.

The TP wagon remained on sale alongside the new 2nd-generation TR-series Magna for a period, being run-out as the Safari limited edition model until the arrival of the TR wagon models.
Probably not many around seen a few with Encore down the side but may have been a dealer thing. Vee

Thanks for the explanations. It's a little surprising they chose "Safari" as a name. From what I've heard Mitsubishi did their best to erase all the Chrysler history. I wonder if the company execs even realised the safari name was used by Chrysler Australia. Maybe they should have called it the "outback" . Throw on a roo bar,a set of rm Williams mud flaps,a few spot lights and a couple of four xxxx stickers on the windows!

No doubt there would have been Chrysler staff still working for Mitsubishi.
The Magna is designed and built here in Oz so i'm sure they would know about the use of "Safari" prior to this. Vee
