A local wrecker has a TL/W with a rear swaybar and I asked how much he wanted for the subframe.
He said $80 for the subframe, or $120 if I want the control arms too.

Seems like a good price, what do I need exactly to swap it over onto a non rear swaybar equipped 3rd gen?

And, if I was to offer to buy the strut assemblies front and rear from the same car, what would they be theoretically worth to me, assuming my car has 185,000km on it and that car has about half of that?

Make sure it hasn't been involved in a rear end collision. If its still on the car you can see for yourself...if not then you may be buying a paper weight.

Peaandham did a early 3rd gen -> TL rear axle/subframe swap recently. Do a search.

Great price, my local wreckers quotes me $300 just for the axle no control arms or anything, went to self serve wrecker and got the axle, hubs, control arms and still cost me about $180.

Ammerty is right, I have done this just check my build log, as for strut assemblies depends on this cost if its only $100/$200 it would be worth it to me.

Also keep in mind if you take the hub you will need handbrake cables because the TE/TJ use different hand brake cable mounts with the hub, much much much better design, my TE Handbrake used to give me alot of grief of sticking, making noise etc, used the TL Design never a problem. Check the lower control arms prior to fitting it in, I replaced some bushing while the axle was out, the way I did it all I needed was to put my rotors and calipers on, bolt the upper control arms into place and the axle to the body, then the trailing arms, finishing with the handbrakes and all done.

$200 for the struts seems like a lot? I mean, since in reality the shocks are the crucial wear part and you can buy brand new shocks or $400ish it seems not worthwhile to buy second hand ones for half price?

The hubs you mean the rotor/brake assembly?

How hard is it to swap over the handbrake cable?

And, how much stiffer did the ride get after the swaybar install?
