Hi,
I noticed when I saw a TL or TW today that the rear window seal is different to my KJ.
Though I unfortunately neglected to pay attention to whether the seal is a single piece or a two piece.
I ask as on my KJ the seal seems 1 piece, but when I went to Mitsubishi to order the seal they said there is lower and upper listed.
Help is much appreciated
Spetz, if you are talking about the moulding, then there is only one and goes around the window and yes Mitsubishi changed the moulding on the L and W to make it seal better. Just checked the MMAL manual and even the KJ had a one piece moulding. Check section 42 BODY - Windshield and Window Glass for details. The only things separate are the three window spacers to go at the bottom and either sides.
The fronts have 3 separate pieces of mouldings, left, right and upper.

On my KJ it seems like a single piece.
However looking at this pic, it seems 2 piece:

Where is that from? I just checked my manual and the TH/KH, TJ/KJ and TL/KL all had the same pic.

You can probably see if it is one or two pieces. If the moulding is smooth all the way round then it is likely one piece. If there are ridges etc at the two bottom corners then it is likely two pieces.
Edit: I noticed your pic does not harness a harness connector.

I've seen TL/W mouldings and they were different to my KJ.
What is the part number for that Vlad?
I got the pic my referencing a part number from a Japanese Diamante
Yep, the L and W series mouldings are more beefier. Apparently in the previous models, the moulding was ever so slightly on the smaller side so did not seal very well. As for part numbers. I can't find it in my manual.

Actually the one I saw on an L series seemed finer to my KJ?
The ridged/raised bit is slightly thinner but is much deeper. Will take a pic tomorrow and post up here if you want.
Here they are at different angles:

Yes it looked thinner, not sure what is under though.
A pic would be great and if you can confirm there is no joins? ie, it is in fact a single piece?
As I understand it, the old one is slightly smaller overall, as in corner to opposite corner is shorter so does not seal against the car body as well as it should.
As for pics, I have added them above. Heres two more showing the corners.
Top right:

Bottom right:

As you can see, all one piece.

Thanks Vlad for all the help and pictures, I appreciate it :)
Now to get the part number somehow as I was looking at two piece surround
PM Mal, I am sure he has that info.

Just to confirm, the seals are a different shape/profile between my KH and the KL.
The KL is not as wide and also seems more flexible.
I remember part of the KH surface peeled after a few years and i had it replaced under warranty.
The replacement has been good, although i notice some minor degredation.
They must have re-designed it for this reason.

Probably used a different material, one less prone to hardening and flaking off in the Sun.
My TJ has this problem, fixed it 3 years ago (cosmetically at least) by scrubbing the affected area with a brush, and giving it a smear of black silastic. Looked good (better anyway) but needs doing again.

Mine has degraded too in areas but my concern is the rear window is creaking over bumps hence why I am looking to reseal it
Spetz, that creaking if left unattended will cause it to leak. Do a search on here for leaking rear windows. As for material change, AFAICS, the MMAL manual refers the Rear Window Moulding as Urethane for the H, J, L and W series and as mentioned before and previously on here by someone else, the pre L ones did not quite extend to the metal body.

If it really is the glass creaking and not something else, it's because the glass has let go of the body work. I've seen a car (Toyota) where this had been untreated, the metal rusted and let water into the boot, where more rust happened. A lot more.
The problem really isn't the creaking, it's the potential damage water and rust may have done on the screen frame that caused the adhesive to let go in the first place.
Screen needs to come out to be reglued, the new trim bit fits over the edge of the glass before it is glued down and centres the glass in the body opening. (Old one will be wrecked during screen removal). While the glass is out it's a good time to look for and repair rust damage, no point putting the screen back in if the paint or metal has a problem.
Get in the boot with a torch and look at the bodywork at the base of the windscreen. If you see any bubbles probe them with a sharp object, if it penetrates the bubble and reveals rust, you know you have a bigger problem than an annoying creak.
