Hello, im new to here and needed some advice please. I have my daughters friend who is an apprentice auto electrician and he is trying to install a new head unit for me. He cut the factory harness and wired the wires into the plug for the new stereo, but it would not power up and was actually making a clicking or ticking noise... he thought there was a problem with the head unit and that he was faulty. i took it back to super cheap and they checked it and it was fine. I then decided to make life easier, to go and buy the matching wiring harnesses from aerpro. but now he will need to cut the wires again and rewire the cut factory harness. i have to say, i am worried. its stressing me out. Will this be ok to rewire the factory harness and use the aerpro harnesses?? (APP0111 & APP8SP)
I know i should have used these from the get go, but he said they were not necessary.
I have to wait till Monday till he goes back to work to get the things he needs to re do it. Im stressing out that he will stuff it up. :eek2:

Once the plug has been cut off it is better to hardwire the hu plug to the car harness.
The colour codes for the HU will be in the manual that came with it, the Magna colour codes are available on the internet.

There will be 4 speaker pairs, a constant power, an accessory power, and an earth wire. Speaker pairs will be same colour without/with stripe, black is earth, red & yellow are power connectors.

If he cut your plug of the car, both those accessories are a waste of cash.
You could solder the sony h/u loom straight to the car. Then take a piece of mdf. 16mm or 19 mm. The thicker the better. Approx 600 x 200. Carefully hold it by the thinnest edges, and firmly apply it to his ass. If it fails to work, repeat the process.. ;)

If he hasn't cut the plug off, solder the app0111 to the sony loom.
I'd make a direct earth to body connection as well.

Thanks for replies guys. YES he has already cut the factory HU harness and YES i do feel like kicking his butt!! Would have been fine if he wired it up right. So if he gets the magna colour codes from the internet (which i have now located through this forum) can he just change the wiring around to match the codes and it will all be fixed??
sorry i have no idea about car electrics but i am learning very quick because of this!

It should be fixable - typically, the worst that can happen is to blow a fuse. Just don't let it be yours.

I did high school electronics and with the wiring information online, a soldering iron, wire cutters/strippers and multi meter did it myself, so an apprecntice sparky should not be having any real difficulty.
Oh, don't forget heat shrink over the soldered joints, because electrical tape is too unprofessional ! :)

ok just an update on my install.... well i got it back tonight. it has been installed and is working. Sooooooo he rewired back to factory wires after it was cut, and he used the mitsubishi wiring harness and the sony harnesses i purchased. There was also a blown fuse in the fuse box of my car and he redone the earth wire as apparently it wasnt good?? no idea what that means... Anyhow, as i was driving home and listening to my long awaited stereo in radio mode... no reception??? tuner fades in and out and can hardly hear it, pulled up at the servo and discovered the power antenna is not working!!! how can this be if the wiring harnesses were used???

If the headunit doesn't have a specific antenna cable (many don't these days) it'll have a remote amp turn on, which on my past 2 head units have been a separate blue cable from the harness. If this is the case you just need to tap the blue wire into the antenna wire of the harness (hopefully it's labelled, but if you have a diagram already this is not an issue).
That should fix it.
