Hey guys done a bit of searching but haven't found a definite answer on the following;

- best engine oil to use
- best coolant

wanting to do some minor services at home on the magna but wanting to know what most people use

Best oil (without spending a considerable amount of money on it), is Penrite HPR10.
Best coolant, well, that's a little tougher as different people will recommend different things.

You could consider:
(premix) http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=6&id_subcateg=67&id_products=601
(concentrated, dilute yourself with distilled water) http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=6&id_subcateg=67&id_products=600
as long as you do a complete flush of the system.

And yes, even though it is pink it is for the Magna as stated in the recommendation guides. It covers cars that use green, magenta/red, and orange coolants. The only cars that it doesn't do is cars that use blue coolant, which is separate. Of course you can still go older tech green coolant, but the lifespan isn't as great.

might cop some controversy but why not genuine for both??

oil is around $35 a 5ltr bottle and is BP from memory.we use it for all Magna's/380s and other cars as well.

coolant (mr936572) is around the same.premixed and ready to go

Honestly no offence but if you did some more searching you would've found that Penrite HPR10 is the most recommended oil for these cars, I run it and can not fault it. So run that.

Coolant alot of people say genuine, I run tectaloy gold though, I use concentrate so I don't have to have a heap of bottles of coolant laying around.

There's no such thing, especially on this forum, in regards to engine oil. Many will swear by a 10w such as HPR10, others a 5w, while other members will suggest a 15w or heaven forbid, a 20w.
There's no one oil fits all. You need to consider the condition of your engine (not necessarily the kilometres)? Does it use oil? If so, how much and why? Does it burn it or leak it? What are you using currently? How well do you maintain your vehicle, mechanically?

Because 15w50 is a rather thick oil, and a considerable departure from factory fill and even HPR10. I'd only use a 15wanything in a Magna that was burning oil or had some other oil consumption issue. Mitsubishi also recommends that oil in everything from Pajeros to Evo Lancers to new shape Mirages, so its a rather blanket approach to engine lubrication from MMAL.

I like to use the genuine coolant even though it is a bit expensive (~$100 for 2 5L bottles). 11 years old and no cooling system problems is good.

Yeah, but earlier servicing probably replaced the fluid with something else, like tectaloy, every say, 2 years.
