Depends on how much lower you want.
If only moderate (say up to 30-45mm or so) then springs are fine.
Any more, and if you want adjust-ability then coilovers is the way to go

CJ Lancer has horrible front suspension. Not smooth at all on rough surfaces. (Let's not mention tyre noise either)
I'd love to know if front struts can be replaced by something more compliant.
Big step backwards, Mitsu. CH was much better.

Then again there are lots of good points that could be mentioned.

MadMax, I dont think suspension is the issue here. Could be the tyres. I have got some nice Expensive Low Noise Eco Tyres (Yokohama Decibel) and they are actually quiet and comfortable. Stock CJ ES it is.

Excellent! I have been looking at what tyres would be better. Thanks for the detail!

Just checked - not cheap, but locally available at Bob Jane.

Michelin Primacy Lc is another good one for the Lancer. A great step up from the stock tyres mitsu supplies.

I have replaced my stock 16" wheels with 17" enkei ego stickies with 235 directionals. They have lowered noise issue but they don't sit very well in my guards. So I may have to roll those out. But I would like to lower it as well. I may go springs. But what brand is best?? I looked at bilstein and king springs. But I'm not sure

How many kays has your current shocks done already?

I would go straight to coilovers, such as BC. But if you are looking at just springs Eibach would be my pick

does anyone know the Firestone TZ700 any good on noise?

Got them on the front of my TL wagon, seem quiet, don't know how they would go on a CJ Lancer though.
They don't seem to be wearing well, not expecting much distance out of them. Done 13,000 km at the moment. Meh. You get what you pay for.

Thanks Bro! As informative as usual! Learn something new every day too! Cheers!

Thread revival!

Figured out what is wrong with the standard Yokohama tyres on the CJ Lancer!

I think these may be high economy tyres . . . ie very stiff sidewalls.
I've dropped tyre pressures down to a ridiculously low 26 psi all round, and the tyre noise has lessened and the suspension compliance has improved dramatically. Handling not affected at all.

Fuel consumption has suffered though, down by 3-4 mpg around town. (I have it set on the old UK miles per gallon, rather than L/100 km.)

Meh.

New tyres ASAP.
