Okay,
I had the computer chip replaced in my 2.6L auto TR about two years ago. Then this week after recieving its service it gives up the ghost and I had to have it towed back to the mitsubishi dealers. It was running a bit rough up until the service but I put that down to timing. It died the week before but that was due to a dead cell in my battery.
So now they are telling me that I have to replace the chip again. Has anyone had this problem with their TR? Are the chips that unrealiable and is there an aleternative replacement? It is going to cost around $500 to replace.
any help would be appreciated.
cheers,

Mate,
Ive have had a TR now for about 6 years, had a ts plus a mate has had a couple and never known a chip to blow..
is it actually the ECU or is it one on the transmission?
I would ring a few wreckers and get some prices on ecu's from wrecked magnas - since you can buy bargain basement TR's now for about $3000 - for something like a chip that isnt going to wear out i personally would be buying a second hand one..
you might just be extremely unlucky with that TR or maybe you have some other sensor or component on the car that is causing the ECU to fail..?
Maybe the dead cell on the battery caused a drop in voltage that the ecu didnt like - but you would think if the car was running that the alternator would have boosted the voltage back up and the car wouldnt have stalled?
dunno
is that $500 much labour? because if its just a matter of replacing the ECU its under the glovebox behind all the plastic on the TR i think
im guessing it would just be a unplug the old one and plug the new one in - if you bought a second hand one that is..
Good luck

Ta for the help. It is actually the ECU. I found out that it was the one on the transmission I had replaced two years ago and not the ECU. I need my car on the road asap though so I can't take the time to find the part and put it in myself. But now it is going to cost $800. If I had the spare cash I would be buying another TR but I don't atm. Just interested to find out if there was any alternatives.
I think the reason why it failed was due to a corroded connection to the distributer, the one that connects to the top if it. could that have shorted the ECU?

If you know the numbers on the ecu ... I have a few sitting under the house...
I may have something to suit...
let me know the part number/number on the ECU that you need.
