View Full Version : O2 sensors brands. Who's getting great mileage?

Since i'm only ever getting 450km or under to 60L+ of fuel, and most are claiming 500/550 even 600 in the city it's time I dump the o2 sensor and observe the results. Question is which one?

Logic tells me o2 sensors can be manufactured with differing materials and processes that would lead to varying reaction times and accuracy. One may read 0.8 at X% oxygen and slightly rich and another reads 0.9 and slightly lean
The price differences reinforce this belief, they range anywhere from ~$40 on ebay to over $350 and thats aftermarket!

I think it would be wise to find out who is actually getting decent mileage and what brand of O2 sensor are you using? and how long have you had it?
I realise this varies with drivers but if we can establish an average, it's gotta be better than no information at all

The bosch 02 sensors can be had for around $70 shipped by memory (the generic 4 plug type from us ebay sellers)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Bosch-15514-Oxygen-Sensor-/181173846001?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ADiamante&hash=item2a2ecd7ff1&vxp=mtr

I'm interested to know what impact it make on fuel consumption also! I'm getting around 400-450 km's before the fuel light comes on doing around town type driving (bugger all heavy acceleration) which isn't too bad imo

Genuine sensor is $135, is what we use here and they are made by NTN which is a division of NGK so you can go that one as well

People will try and save $50 but then spend 2 hours trying to install some cheap brand, we will not install them here

Cairns is such a rort

Aftermarket ones from repco/supercheap/autobahn are MINIMUM $170
Genuine from mitsubishi is $280

Another reason not to buy locally, and instead to find the best one to order in

Is 450 km on 60 L that bad?
It is 13.3 L/100 km, my TJ is currently on 14 and I don't have an urge to change the O2 sensors.
What sort of trips does the car do?

I. Pull as low s 7.5/100 on the freeway, and can keep it under 11 in the city if I don't care about the angry people behind me ;)

I honestly don't know what O2 is in mine, but I know it is over 300,000 km old.
I should say that most of the Kms are LPG, but I must assume that the sensor is still heated and functioning no matter what fuel is used, even if the reading isn't referenced (which I think it is on my gas setup, just no closed loop control)

I just fitted a universal Bosch one just the other day through city driving with giving the car some stick I was not even going to make it to 400k's a tank, so I swapped the sensor, driving the car sensibly and will see what I get here.

Are the 3rd gen tanks 63L?

If you ask for the wrong part number from Mits they are over $300, if you know the correct part number from Mits they are much cheaper

Realise this is in the 3rd gen forum, but are the o2 sensors from the 3.5 and 3.0 litre magnas the same as a tr ts v6?

So one question remains, where can I buy good O2 sensors?

So one question remains, where can I buy good O2 sensors?

I think Mal has answered that one already... Go a genuine one, get it off Mal.
Buying it from a dealership will cost $200+

I have a genuine one which I will be fitting to mine at some point.

What was the fuel economy prior to the new O2 sensor being fitted?

8l/100k highway 12.5l/100k city. but understand that i changed my O2 sensor because it died, not because of bad fuel economy, even though some say that an O2 should be changed regardless every 100 000k.

Yours died and you were still getting that? How do you drive, and please be honest

i think the O2 was more so dying, the car would bog down badly at full throttle, then all of a sudden it would just pick up, i disconnected the O2 and it solved the problem. Now as for my driving habits, i just potter around, dont get me wrong, i do the speed limit, i just dont try and get there in a flying second every time. saying that i have a few things done to the engine that i cant seem to resist using every so often.

I'm gonna bump this because I sent MadMagna a PM 2 days ago without response, maybe he'll see it here or someone else can point out where to actually buy a decent sensor from

Guys, please remember I do get busy, if you need a faster response please pick up the phone and call me. I have so many PM's there and to be honest I prefer to do business by phone or email not PM as too much info gets lost in PM messages.

I will get to my PM's as soon as I can but with christmas shut down next week we are flat out trying to keep up as it is

i bought my nippon denso O2 sensor from rock auto, a lot of people don't like rock auto, but its a lot better then ebay, and in my case a lot better then the fool auto parts here where i live. mal also sells them, i paid $90 delivered for mine 11 months ago, if you do a search on the forums, im sure you will find where even mal has stated how much he sells his for.

I fitted a genuine one last weekend to mine (bought cheaper than any of the aftermarket brands, in a right place at the right time scenario).
Aside from the limited crawl space and fiddliness that comes with doing this particular job DIY, it was a breeze to install without the need for messing with the wiring.

Millenium7

do you swap it from underneath the car or down through the engine bay?

peaandham
12-12-2013, 06:32 PM
You have to replace the sensor from under the car and push the wiring into the car, only takes a few minutes I even did a DIY its located in the DIY section of this forum.

From underneath the car up through the floor.
Perhaps some research may not go astray, prior to undertaking the task.

wow.. i wouldnt know why anyone doesnt like rock auto..
i ordered a bosch o2 sensor the day before, along with 4 KN oil filters, 90 bucks delivered for all of it, and it should be here on monday.
this is the third time i shop with those guys (many many thanks to those who suggested them to me in this forum) and each order arrived in less than 4 days.

the trick with them is, they have multiple warehouses where the items are dispatched
you need to keep an eye on the shopping chart and try to select brands that all ship from the same warehouse.. saves heaps on the postage :)

cheers
