Hi there, I am having trouble removing the rear rotors.

I have released the hand brake and used 2 8mm bolt that insert into the rotors and have been turning them so the rotor comes free. But the problem is that it they become very hard to turn when the rotor is about 1/3 off, feels like something is still holding them in place. Is this the what happens, I do not want to keep putting too much pressure on them as I do not want to cause any damage

have you tried hitting them with a soft faced hammer, or using a piece of timber and hammering the timber?

Most likely corrosion has caused them to 'weld' themselves to the hub assembly and just require to be freed (I haven't removed rotors from a magna before but see if you can spray wd40 in the hub assembly which will help free the rotor)

Sounds like you may need to back off the hand brake shoes. They are probably getting caught on a lip inside the drum section of the brake rotor.

The "bolts in the holes trick" is only to break the discs free in case they are rusted on. Once free they should slide off. If not, it is the shoes that need retracting. Screwdriver in the hole on the backplate. Any force at this point is just bending stuff.

Sounds like what Madmax is saying is correct. So once I adjust the shoes will I need to adjust back to how they were, and if so how do I do this?

There should be a small hole that allows you to see into the centre of the rotor/hub.

Spin it around till you see the little adjuster..

Get in there with a small screwdriver and spin her a few clicks to loosen her up.

Wind the adjusters all the way in to remove the discs. With new discs, wind the adjusters tighter, until the shoe binds. Work the handbrake lever to center the shoe. Once you have drag back off 3 or 4 clicks until the wheel turns freely.
Just be warned the adjusters work in opposite directions, what loosens one tightens the other side.

While the discs are off, it's a good time to clean everything (I use the garden hose) and check you haven't bent anything.
