Hay guys

Will a tj manual ecu fit upto a te manual.? I heard u need a loom but wasn't shore? Is the loom hard to change over or expensive?

Cheers

As has been noted in many threads, the TE & TF MAFs don't include a barometric pressure sensor so a TJ ECU will throw CELs for the missing sensor though the engine will run normally if the ECU has the immobiliser disabled. I believe that the CEL can be neutralised, but as the fix is experimental there's no public definition that supports it.

As I am not very good when it comes to the programming side of an ECU, Wytwun is the guru there, I am not sure if there is anywhere in the map this can be disabled. I did ask Steve Knight years ago and he simply told me to do what I do now and that is to remove the globe from the CEL

Lets face it, anything that makes the CEL turn on with these older models will be pretty damn obvious anyway

Other alternative is of you are not running cruise and dont intend to is to use the TH or TJ harness, I have done this in the past with success and works fine

The engine will run normally as wytwun suggested, the CEL light has a long lifespan....on for about 7000ks so far, the car has been running fine since the tj ecu was swapped in and it mounted in stock mounts on the tf loom...
The CEL I have is for the speed sensor if I remember correctly, it hasn't had any effect on fuel economy and cruise control still works also. I have an auto btw

The J series ECU now in Dayne's car has the experimental barometric pressure sensor fix but is still throwing a CEL. However Evoscan reports that the CEL being flagged is for the speed sensor as Dayne notes, not the barometric pressure sensor. I wasn't prepared at the time to do a "flashing lights" code check, which in retrospect would have been useful to confirm the Evoscan report.

Dayne's car is an early TF without the reflash connector which makes experimental reflashes awkward...

Dayno, at what time after start up does the light come on. With the Bara sensor if you start the car it will stay off for about a minute or two and then come on regardless if the car has been driven. Speed sensor will not come on at all unlses the car has bee driven.

It comes on regardless of being driven after about a minute or so. So it sounds like the barra sensor is still the culprit. The cel is less of an annoyance than pulling the cluster out so I just left it. How do you do the flashing light check? I tried searching it last night but couldn't find anything on the forum.

I use a scan tool, have not bothered with a flashing light check in years, is easy to miss count anyway

Sounds like the CEL is still from the Barra Sensor

When Andy installed the ecu Evoscan said it was the speed sensor, just wanted to confirm this with the flashing light thingy.

Sometimes these roms do funny things when one thing is switched off, take the 4sp auto ECU, if you go in and turn off the immob on some models it will then start looking for TCL which is not there and this will bring on the CEL, may be a matter of this having happened

1) with the ignition OFF, ground pin 1 of the diagnostic connector (jumpering pins 1 & 4 or 1 & 5 should work; pin 1 should be marked on the connector, but the drawing I have says it is the left most pin on the side with the longest edge when looked at the connector with the longest edge on the top which I think puts it at the steering column end...)
2) turn ignition on
3) count long flashes (1.5 seconds) as tens and short flashes (0.5 seconds) as ones.

According to my Ellery w/s manual, 24 is the speed sensor and 25 is the barometric pressure sensor.

I'd been hoping that Evoscan would be sufficient as I don't have any alternative scan tool :(

Based on your advice it does look it :(. Scratch that approach to dealing with the problem. However I have just thought of another - will have to go read some disassembly...
