Hey guys, my veradas temp gauge will rise after a short burst of hard driving, it will also rise during a steddy run up a hill, at idle with the Ac on, it sits just above where it should. I have noticed that the big fan cuts in and out while at the correct temp, but the small fan doesn't cut in until it's 2/3 towards hot. The small fan runs with Ac as per usual, but the temp still climbs, so it can't be fan related. nThere are no leaks and the coolant is full. I am thinking thermostat. Any other ideas?

probably thermostat is stuck closed slightly, check the water level, but also make sure there is no air in the cooling system as air has caused erratic temps for me as well.
just got my thermostat done and solved all my problems though.

I'd say thermostat also, but a also wouldn't discount a partially blocked radiator.
My wife's Pulsar was experiencing very similar symptoms and upon a mechanic's inspection the radiator was found to be considerably blocked.

I would go with the thermostat as well! If you do it yourself do not forget the "O" ring when you purchase the new Thermostat, depending on the brand of Thermostat you might have to purchase it separately!

there is a unscientific (probably inaccurate) way of checking if the thermostat is rooted or if you have a block (i assume) feel the two pipes to the radiator when the car is at temperature, the bottom one will be considerably cooler than the top one from memory. at least this is what i was told by someone here when i was diagnosing my cooling issue. i could be completely wrong though

The bottom hose will stay cold untill the thermostat opens up and water starts circulating through the radiator
get your car to running temp, or if your car runs hotter check it then, feel the top radiator hose, then feel the bottom hose, if the bottom hose is cooler, its more then likely thermostat

20 cents worth - my old TH would get very hot in traffic AKA 20% over the normal temp reading - then drop back to near normal - Turns out the thermo fan low speed function had died - so the computer turned on the fan and nothing happened - there must be a backup program that says Bl**p to hot - turn on the A/C fan and high speed for the main fan - the temp would then drop back to normal - Idle you car up to temp with the bonnet down and see if the fan turns on.

What was the fix for this? replacement fan motor or was it just a relay not working? I have the same problem i think, main fan not turning on until it gets way above half on the temp guage.

I used a diode to jump the low speed relay coil to the high speed - the fan cycles a bit as it pushes more air and cools it down a bit faster but fixed the over temp.
