Hi all,

I have tf advance 3.0L, auto.

It has a rattle between 1500-2200rpm. Only does this in gear, when in neutral sound disappears. Makes the noise under heavy and light loads. Its doesnt go away when the cars warm. So I'm thinking its drivetrain related.
Kinda sounds like detonation but a lot more tinny and very much louder.

Anyone have similar problem?

You probably have a rattly Y-pipe between the manifolds and cat. Its a common problem, and causes tinny rattling at low-midrange revs under load

I hope it's that, that sounds like an excuse for a new exhaust hehe. Ill put. It up on stands and check the y pipe

i had a rattle noise problem
it initially showed up on load only around 1200-1600rpm, more noticeable when taking off,
soon after developed to be pretty much constant.

trouble was the loose tensioner in the timing belt area.
i dont know much about engines but
just to tick a box.. i hope it helps

It's definitely a metallic sound. Just had a look underneath the car, it does it when stationary when reving the car. It sounds like an exhaust rattle, plus at the front of the y pipe there is what looks like sound deadening working its way out from between the exhaust and the heat shields. Subarus are we known for there exhaust heat shields being noisy.

It wasn't working loose a week ago when I was underneath the car and I didn't have this noise a week ago. Coincidence? Maybe but I might try removing the heat shields and see if it stops. It will allow me to see what's going on in there any way.

All accessories belts are tensioned correctly. So either it's the y pipe or tensioner. I couldn't be bothered checking the tensioner today.
