Hello

I am looking at installing a dual battery system in my 2007 series 3 SX, I have purchased the kit but last night I checked the engine bay and there no is easy spot for a second battery. I am just wondering if anyone has done a dual setup in the 380 or could give any advice on what to move around to make a second battery fit.

I am taking it to my mechanic this week to see what he can move it seems like down the right hand side is electronics ie fuse box and computer that could be easier moved but I have no idea.

I want to be able to run my aftermarket stereo with the car off for things like the drive ins and as a backup in case the battery dies. Please don't say leave the car running or turn the amps off.

Thanks :D

Second deep cycle battery in boot, with some switch gear to run things off the boot battery when the engine is off and also isolate the front battery? Common application in caravans, I think.

Be very very careful, you mess with these cars and all sorts of things can start especially with the CanBus. I can not see how you could move the ECU and there is simply no where else in the bay to install a second battery. I highly doubt you would find anyone else who has done this to a 380 anywhere, is more a 4x4 thing. I have done this to a Magna which was a tow car for a camper trailer, the second battery went in the boot. May be your only option

Ok thanks for the info I don't mind installing it in the boot doesn't worry me. When I called repco to ask about the kit they told me to call projector and speak to the technical team about the kit that was right for me. When I called the guy wanted me to tell him where the battery would be going as the cable distance can make a difference. Is this true? could the 3m~ of extra cable cause issues with charging a deep cycle battery?

This is the kit I bought http://www.projecta.com.au/Products/12V150AElectronicIsolatorKit?iframe=true&width=800&height=100%

They also have http://www.projecta.com.au/Products/12V150AElectronicIsolatorKitforusewithTrailerMount edAuxilia?iframe=true&width=800&height=100% which looks like same but has longer cables so I cant see what the guy said being true?

My plan was to have a switch to either use the stereo from the starter battery for every day then switch it over to the deep cycle when I wanted to run without the car on. Unless I'm totally wrong in saying that my 15 min drive to work everyday wont be able to charge the starter battery after starting then charge the deep cycle with the stereo only being used from the deep cycle?

I know its more a 4x4 thing but I have had to be jumpstarted twice at the drive ins from running my stereo and I want to avoid the embarrassment in the future :)

Must be a hell of a noise factory if it flattens the battery after a couple of hours!
How old is your current battery and how much current does your sound system draw? Might be easier to upgrade your current battery. Had a battery that would start the car fine, but if I left the headlights on for 10 minutes it wouldn't start, batteries loose capacity as they age. lol
Maybe have a voltmeter in the car to monitor the voltage and turn the sound down when it drops to a certain point?
