Hey,
I am after some power figures for N/A magnas, can be as worked as you like I just want to know what's possible. Specifically from a 2001 VR-X as I may have an opportunity to get one quite cheap (through family). I currently drive a '99 Fairmont which I am pretty happy with and know I can get a good 500nm+ at the bags (doing standstills at 1800rpm is just plain awesome  ) and still be N/A. Not much of a fan of Turbo or S/C (mostly because of insurance). Any other Pros/Cons of the VR-X would be much appreciated.

In case you're interested getting power like that from a Ford I6 is achieved by combining a Jim Mock Motorsport kit with an engine rebuild from ITS Performance. Making the I6 a 4.3L+ instead of 4L :bowrofl: no replacement for displacement lol

Well the only thing you may miss going by your post is with a VRX you won't be able to do standstills like what you could do with your ford. You will however be able to do some seriously awesome FWD burnouts (I love em) with a 3.5 Manual.

I have a 2001 TJ VRX 5 Speed and I think its great. I've flogged every n/a six on the road so far and its an awesome feeling, especially sinking some ego's.

I recently had my VRX dynoed in stock form and it put our 121kw at the wheels or 162hp. I've since had a K&N induction kit (relocates the airfilter behind the bumper) and some pacemaker extractors. They've made a massive difference and the torque increase is unreal. I'll be going back next wednesday for another dyno with these two mods and report my findings.

Howdy. I think Booya wins the prize for the most wild N/A Magna with his 14:1 high compression 3L engine that cranked out somewhere around the 240kW mark, up from around 140kW stock. Apparently it was a ***** to drive on the street though :D

Increasingly more people are getting approx 195hp (~ 146kW) ATW without cracking the engine open. Basically, intake, exhaust, extractors, high-flow throttle body and a piggy back computer is all you need for those numbers.

DivHunter... so far kits like that are only available from RPW (maybe Booya's mech might be doing them now too)... even then i don't think they've done many, and if they did we havent heard about them!! There is no reason why the motors won't do it though, they are pretty strong motors, have 6 bolt i mains and i've heard they're akin to skyline motors for strength (although i haven't seen anyone with those results!)

there was another guy in the US with a heavily worked Diamante (a magna rebadged), he posts on the MOGWA site but i havent seen him in a while.... he was chasing 500hp from memory but have no idea how it went (anyone else know???)

there is also a guy drag racing a "focus" in Aus, which has a 6G74 (could be a 6G72, my memories lagging) and pumps out some impressive times!!

your dreamin, i'd love to see 500+Nm @the wheels from a N/A 6 :bowrofl:

JJM quote 175Kw @ wheels for the DV5a upgrade

go the VRX, heaps better than any falcon before the BA's

14:1 compression that's huge

JMM do exhaust, cam, head work and a chip etc, ITS Performance does block bored 60 thou, jp forged pistons, jp forged rods, 60 thou off the head, 20 tho off the block, stage 5 cam, acl race bearings, oversized big end bearings, oversized rod bearings, head porting, oversized valves, molly rings, injectors - it's been done on an EF so my AU wouldn't really have that much trouble at all

must admit the VR-X is a ball of fun to drive though :D

just reading about JMM from Autospeed

In terms of straight-line performance, J.M.M. has a customer car with a DEV 5 kit (DEV 5 adds more porting and compression to achieve 170kW ATW at a cost of AUD$5500. For slightly more power – 175kW at the wheels – you can buy the AUD$6700 DEV 5a kit which includes special valve springs.) that runs 14.6 second ETs – with an auto trans and full sound system. Another vehicle with the same kit has run 14.04 seconds thanks to a manual gearbox, short ratio LSD and grippy tyres that pretty good going for a ford, but not overly quick considering Mal got mid 14s with around 140odd kW atw. i guess its cause they're fatter  ... unfortunately they don't have Dyno sheets on show, but seeing as the XR6T and Boss260 have close to ~500Nm i'd really like to see any NA I6 with that much!

Seriously while the VRX performance isn't gobsmacking on paper, the power delivery and suspension setup make them a joy to burn around twisties.

I honestly can't get enough of mine and is seriously the best car i've ever driven. I drive alot of cars for work (property valuer) and nothing comes close in comfort, build quality and power as the magna's.

The fords are very comfortable to drive and good fun when doing standstills but no where near as good handling wise and build quality doesn't come close. Not dissing ford or anything thats just my opinion.

Dave from RPW has quoted "an easy 220kw" from the 3.5 by boring out to 3.8 litre and various other mods for around $4,000. Apparently it's a airly common upgrade on the Pajeros.

Roughly speaking that equates to around 386Nm.

Yeah I talk to him all the time. He's getting there slowly, basically it's costing big bucks and it takes time to save. But he's still on track :) and it was 600hp atw. Pretty insane!!

that guy would need to take off in 4th to save his wheels from flying off with the front half of his car..

wasn't he also having problems dealing with RPW?
