It's great oil, but generally i have found it to be no better then say mobil 1 in most applications, and since I can generally buy the mobil 1 cheaper i buy that instead.
If cost is no issue, then yeah sure go for it, but castrol or mobil 1 are generally the cheaper options.

Very well regarded in the USA , but yeah I reckon Mobil 1 etc probably just as good comparable to price and ease to get.

I would compare it to penrite but costs a lot more. Cast roll I don't use some of the higher grades are ok but I would not use magnatec in my lawn mower

Said it is a lot more smoother, less noise and better performance....he said a lot of his friends use it in their performance cars

Heath, many say things that they think is better, they pay more, expect that there will be a result
There are fools who still believe taking off intake resonators and replacing them with orange juice caps increases performance. There are still people out there who think K&N filters improve performance despite dyno evidence showing different
Simple mate, next time you bring the car in for a service lets try it in your car, you be the judge of the oil and then on the following service I will strain it, perhaps even send a sample off to be checked and then we can both be the judge.

Yeah I know what you mean...I was just curious more than anything about whether other people have said the same sort of things about it or it's him just talking rubbish lol
But sure Mal, can suss it out when I'm in next..I think you're right though...probably get a similar result as what you currently put in it but just a lot more expensive! Haha

Is it even possible to accurately gauge which oil is better or worse without some kind of lab testing and by just driving the car?

I found this HERE Spetz - Poor Mans Oil Analysis (http://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction/346125-diy-poor-mans-oil-analysis.html). Not sure accurate it is.
Die hard Penrite fan myself. Its affordable, readily available in the flavour I like and it works.

Not really. Used oil analysis by a lab will tell you the metal content of the oil (=engine wear material) and how much life is left in the oil.
Worth doing if you run a fleet of identical cars under identical conditions, like a fleet of taxis or police cars. Select a couple of cars at random, take oil samples and get analysed. The results will tell you if everything is ok or not, and you can adjust the oil change time/distance according to that. Why change the oil/filter on 50 cars if you can leave it for another 3 months? lol

I have been running royal purple in my car for over 7 years. My old motor done 280,000 ks on it, never blew smoke. Is it worth the $$$? Its really hard to tell, but one thing for sure it costs more than $80 to fill up, really spending $40 more on good oil is not that much.

My KH has done 215k with no smoke and i only started paying attention to the oil quality past 20k, prior to that it was whatever the dealerships used. Only thing i notice is a little tappet noise.

Recently dropped the oil in my TJ (170k) and decided to put Valvoline 5w-30 "Synpower" synthetic in. (As i was given a discount to help empty the drum i think!)
Anyone had any experience with this stuff?
All i can report thus far (250km) is that it has a new minor rattle for the first 2 seconds after start, then is as silent as a mouse. At highway speed, engine (placebo effect?) appears to feel "free-er" to rev.
Also pulled and cleaned egr valve. (YES i was very bored!) and what a mess...inside looked like it had been sprayed with 2 cans of black "christmas snow in a can." Again, only noticable change so far is a .1 reduction in fuel economy over the first 250km.

Probably a good oil - Mobil 1 might be cheaper and as good, personally I'd try adding MBL from Pro-ma to a semi synthetic oil - much cheaper and the MBL treatment has made dramatic improvement to every car I used it on.
(and no I don't distribute it or have any financial interest)
