Hey hows it going everyone.
Now i have 6g to spend on a new car and im going from a vl commodore to a magna.
Now havign a look in the trading post i see the most common cars for 6g are the TR and TS Magna's.
Now i have been reading up and talking to a few people who have said the SE are the best TR and TS models.
So im preferably looking for a 95 Magna TS SE.
Could someone please post the differences in the models only 94 and 95 models etc as i dont know much about them.
So what do you reckon of the 95 Magna TS SE is it the best 95 magna you can get for around $6g.
Please write back or email me.
Cheers and its great to be on the forums.

You can get TE Magna's for $6000 - $6500. Much better car, faster and all. Get a 96 3L TE Magna 140kw at the engine.

I would not advise getting an automatic if you are going for the 4 cylinder models.
TR and TS are pretty much identical in every way. Just the grill is different, the rear boot garnish and the TS has a little cushion thing on the end of the center console whereas the TR doesnt. Other than that they are pretty much the same. The best 2nd gen magna to go for would be a 1995 TS V6Si with manual transmission although they are fairly rare. They are the 3L V6. The SE only comes in 2.6L auto, 2.6L manual, and 3L auto. No manual is available for the V6. Considering the V6 and the 4clinder TR/TS guzzle pretty much the identical amount of fuel, you are better off with a V6 as the 4cylinder astron engine guzzles as much as some V6's. They are still a good car though. Like i said before I would be looking at a manual 3L TE magna. You might want to look at this.

Expect to pay a little more tho for one in good condition.

Any help is appreciated.

I disagree, not faster at all.
A V6 manual TR/TS will keep up and can even pull away from a 3L TE, I know from experience.
But if it's not speed you're after then TE's are still sweet cars.

KillBilly you tool. Ofcourse if you import a DOHC engine and stick it in a TR/TS it's going to beat a TE. :bowrofl:

if you can find something that can give you reliable transport for what money you have then it's got to be better than going into debt. Personally, I won't go into debt 4 a car!

One experience is hardly enough. Even is not faster either. Besides let's face it the guy probably sucked at driving lol Either that or he actually was the stereotypical grandpa lol A 140kw, 255nm TE 3L manual TE Magna should always beat a 120kw, 235nm 3L Manual TS Magna. There is only a 40-45kg difference between the 2 which is not very much. This would probably me made up for the TE generally having a less tired engine. I've seen my 2 mates go head to head 1 in a stock 1993 85kw Lancer and one in a stock 2004 100kw Corolla (roughly 2000kms) and my mate in the Lancer not only "kept up", he beat my mate in the Corolla by about 2 carlengths. Doesn't mean his car is necessary faster.

I said will keep up and CAN (not WILL) pull away.
I disagree with you because it was on more than one occasion.
But anyway, my old motor could've been one of those freaks, I dunno, all I can do is relate what I've experienced. Argue it as much as you want but I did it.

Sooooo......the Lancer beat the Corolla, but it's not faster...
wtf?

Which you should've said in the original post instead of causing confusion lol
It's not the reason but I'll let you believe that.
Oh and there's over 100kg difference between my car stock and the TE I was against.

Dunno how many weights were in the back of the TE you raced but according to the link on carsales.com.au which you provided a TS Exec V6 weighs 1373kg and a TE exec V6 weighs 1416 making a difference of just 43kg. So not sure where you got over 100kg from??

Because I didnt race an exec
I showed you the page where I did the comparison
And I'll correct myself, before I meant to say it was just UNDER 100kg difference, my bad.
We can argue this all day Chief, the sheer fact of the matter is that I know what happened, I was there, I did it a few times, I knew the driver too, a friend from when I did 6 months of an IT diploma at Mt Druitt TAFE.
Argue away, I really don't care now lol

Cheif, there you go again, you do not even have a second gen so again, pull you head in mate and work out what you are talking about before you try and state facts. Killbilly is not one to crap on, in addition to this, my V6 auto does an impressive job at keeping up with, not beating, the TE's and F's, many here in vic know this. Your knowledge of the 2nd gen shows when you say the difference between a tr and ts is the cussion on the end of the console, the grille and tail lights. Read below
The cusion is on the SE models for both TR and TS.
The differences are, and this does vary according to options
GLX, Power steering. Some had efi
EXECUTIVE as above plus Aircon, EFI, central locking.
SE as above plus (from Feb 1992) cruise control, elec windows, rear seat head rests, bucket console (one with cusion), red lights on the doors, map light up front with better main interior light, front door pockets, rear garnish has reflector.
Elite as above plus better trim, elec drivers seat, woodgrain plastics, white instrument needles with italic print, std 15" alloy wheels, V6 front end running gear (Disks, lower control arms etc), trim inside the boot lid.
The EI verada is basically an SE with v6 and big bars,
The XI verada is basically an Elite with V6, big bars.
Some of the last of the TR and most TS have airbag and optinal ABS
I am bound to have forgotten something, if you do get a TR try to get the manual as I am sure Killbilly will agree.
As for the topic of the post, as that is what we should be on about, see if you can get a Verada, you will have a comfi car to start with then. There are a few TE's out there going cheap now however they are pretty trashy cars with just as high mileage as the TS's out there.
At the end of the day mate, get the car that appeals to you, some here have first gens, some second and some third. Some people have even brought TL's (not that they admit to doing so lol)

Lol you idiot Magmadna. KB and I were talking about an issue of weight, of which in the end I was actually right although I didn't care about it, I just wanted to make sure he understood where my belief was coming from. You Madmagna, are so righteous yet you are never right. Funny... Um hello? I own a 2nd gen, always have since I've been on this forum so don't know what you are talking about?? My friend who has a TS GLX has a cushioned lid on his car where the center console is and I have a TR GLX which does not. Not sure why you posted the rest of the dribble. To prove I don't know anything about my own type of car? lol :bowrofl:

Ever thought that the GLX your mate has may have had the console changed in the time since it was new, you call me an idiot?????
So you own a TR but have an avitar of the TL?
What I am surprised is that a tosser like you actually has friends???
As for being never right, umm, it is you who cries when I infact mention you are wrong. I am sure that others here will be able to attest as to what which model came with, and while we are talking about what was offered on a particular model, this was posted for the benefit of the member who started the thread, one which you hijacked flaming KB.
Get a life.

I didn't flame KB at all. If anyone has hijacked the thread it was you Madmagna. I just didn't think he could beat a 3L Manual TE as did IanCandy and Phonic if you look at their posts. They both didn't think he could and that's an opinion which I share. I then went onto to explaining that just because you beat one particular car on one particular trip doesn't mean the other driver is any good, or was trying his hardest etc and that the TE is only a little heavier than the TS but has a significant amount of extra power. If you call that flaming well that's your own problem. It wasn't just me who thought KB's claim was a bit ambious but at the end of the day I don't really care about whether or not he won or lost, I care that this bloke gets himself a nice car, so I would recommend he get a TE if he can.
P.S. I can assure you that I have plenty of friends MadMagna. As far as friends go, I don't think you can speak MadMagna, after all you are a debt collector!! I did think that was quite an immature comeback from a 34 year old, I mean honestly... "I'm surprised a tosser like you actually has friends". I think you are just a bit insecure mate.

Whats being a debt collector have to do with it? and being 34? Does that mean he has no friends?
That is a pathetic comment to make, and as for the "tosser" comment, it seems like it may be suitable for you based upon your comments of late in various topics in this forum, u may just have earnt yourself a user title change if your lucky. :D

Firstly i am gunna say don't look past a TR SE. It maybe a 4cyl, but i have a 5-seed one and it's great.
Secondly, Has anyone else noticed the increasingly large amount of pointless arguments taking up these forums. Cheif face it mate, you took it too far, and you kept on digging and digging, and it's almost as if your enjoying the small amount of attention it gives you
anyway

There is another idea for the creater of this thread, a 4cyl SE or Elite and go the turbo option.
After all the 4cyl can be built to be pretty much bullet proof.

Also among the fun and lovers tiff no one bothered to answer the poor guys question lol
If you save to 10 grand you will get yourself a good te or better still a TF manual, poss even an average TH.
This will also give you time to have a look arond and get the car you want, not just what is avail, for 10k you may even get yourself a good ke onwards verada.

I'd wait awhile and get yourself a TJ for $10,000. Saw one sell at the auctions a few weeks ago for $9000 and by next year they will be even cheaper. If you wanted to save even more money I would suggest you wait until the 2005 new magna comes out and capitalise on the depreciation of the value of out of date Magnas. I'm going to the auctions tomorrow to have a look at a 2000 VT II Commodore with ABS, dual airbags and spoiler. Looking for $10,000 or so. See how we go. I'd advise you go to the auctions. They are RAC inspected and inform you of any problems etc. There are of course lemons like there are with private selling cars, but you get a 3 month warranty, RAC inspection and best of all a cheap price! depending on which auction company you are dealing with.
