View Full Version : Will a Verada 3L engine from an auto bolt to a manual box?

I have acquired a 98 3L manual Verada wagon with broken valves (not just bent - no prizes for guessing what happened) and I'm looking for another engine to put in it.

Do I have to find a manual engine or will one from an automatic do?

pretty sure it would be the same as differences between the same engine just for differing transmissions would have blown out manufacturing costs.

You will need a flywheel, or else you won't have a clutch. otherwise it should all fit.

I guess the flywheel I've got will do...
Thanks for the responses. It opens up a lot more engines available now I don't have to look for a specific manual one.

Fairly certain all third generation veradas came with a 3.5 motor not a 3 litre

Manual and auto motors are the same, flywheel can be changed over as well

If is a Verada, it will be a 3.5 no matter what the model (well from KE onwards)

It's a '98 Verada wagon and the timing belt is on the passenger side. Doesn't that make it a 3L?
The car isn't immediately handy so I can't run out and check, but I will do so in the next day or so.

Perhaps I have my generations wrong. If so, apologies for the mis-post!

No way can a 98 model Verada have a timing belt on pass side. Go check your car details again as either you have a 95 ks with 6G72 motor or 98 KF with 6G74s4 motor.

The timing belt is definitely there (pass side), but I may have the other details wrong. I'll check them and get back.

Give us the VIN and that will reveal all, or put up a picture of the car or engine.
It will most likely be a 12 valve 3L motor. The only replacement for that is another of the same.

Do you know any history on the car?

If its a 98 Verada it would of been an auto from factory and 3.5L. Maybe converted to manual later?
If its factory manual it would have to be a KS and be a 3.0L

Or I could be completely wrong and I will go and hide in the corner.

If a KS Manual has to be a touring wagon as they were the only factory manual Verada made.

Hopefully OP will come back someday and sort out the mystery

I missed the model year by a bit :-(
It's a 95 KS. Apologies for the red herring. I guess I'm in the wrong forum. If some kind moderator would like to shift the thread where I should have started it, I would be most grateful!

Awwwww!

3.0L V6 of the second gen = 6G72 - no replacement engine, (other than the same) available as far as I know. 6G74 of the later third gen won't fit.

The question still is... will an engine with an auto still bolt to the manual transmission? I'm guessing so. I don't really want a different engine. The 3L will do.
