Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a motor laying around and would mind giving external dimension of a 6g72 motor?
I'm looking to transplant into my project car. The motor will be mounted north south.

Ideally would need overall height, total length, width at mounts on block, height at mounts on block, width at edge of heads.

I would just like the measurement not a lecture on why it won't work.

I don't plan on registering my project car just want to do some burnouts. As for why I want to put a 6g72 into a 1964 rambler? just cause I will have a motor when my magna runs out of rego. Not going to re register because the chassis has high ks and couldn't be bothered fixing everything. It was just bought as a runabout for a few months.

I know there are more suitable motors but why always follow the pack.

Anyway hope someone can help me out

Cheers
Dayne

I can't answer your question, but from what I know when people use the 6G7X motors for N-S installations and RWD they use one from a Triton which comes with a RWD gearbox too.
I don't know how different the two motors are from one another though

I have heard this two, being from the same family of motors one can assume ( someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the triton gearbox should fit with my 6g72. Ill have to do a bit of research before I get to that point anyway. It makes economical sense for Mitsubishi to keep the bolt pattern the same. Subaru does it with their EJ motors.

I will have to have a custom tailshaft made regardless of what motor I put in. The rambler had a straight 6 from factory and small block Chevy v8 motors fit with a little massaging.

I plan on using the standard ecu and wiring to get her going, that should keep the costs down to start, then maybe later look at aftermarket computer.
I can't wait for it to run out of rego... Just need to learn how to weld or find someone that does, to custom make some engine mount brackets.

What about the distributor, doesn't it poke out the flywheel end of the motor and therfore will hit the firewall when turned north/south.

Yes the dissy is on the rear of the motor. The length of the engine bay is quite long. It's more the width of the motor I'm concerned about.

As I have to cut a hole in the floor pan for the shifter anyway, I have a bit of room to move it forward if I need.

If you think you could get approximate with the motor in the car. There isn't a lot of room in there
